Youtube Channel - Artist For Artists.

I want to see how this would work. Any takers? I just created a new account for Google. (My other account is managed by my school district.) I also created a channel on YouTube. (There are no video uploads yet, because it has not started yet.

I want to have a channel where people submit their artwork along with a questionnaire so that I can present it on the channel.

Please advise if you are interested.

Hi, Regina,

I don't quite understand your OP.

People submit their artwork, or people submit videos of their artwork?

What kind of questionnaire?

What questions would be in the questionnaire?

You're asking people to submit artwork for eventual inclusion on a video system. What will you do - create a video with the artwork? If so, what will be done with the info in the questionnaire?

Here is the idea. I was thinking that reports indicate that YouTube is an excellent social media source. However, I know that the main problem is getting viewership. I think this is primarily because channels focus on one person's views on themselves. Therefore, I thought if it could involve several people, those people would invite people to see their contributions, and the " ... and they told two friends, and so on" factor would help.

The proposal is this: The artist submit a piece of work they like the best. In writing, they explain what they did to create it, what it means, what supplies they used, etc. The piece of artwork would be presented on the channel and the artist's explanation would be presented. I thought it would be nice to feature three pieces of artwork per episode if it works. If this is done perhaps, weekly, each week three artists would be featured, each would invite their contacts, and the viewership would increase. As the viewership increases, the channel would gain more tooth.

I think I explained it well, but if not please advise.

You did a fine job of explaining it. And it's an admirable idea. However, I would not join it.

Here's why. Restricting participants to "a piece of work" or even three sorta' slants toward painters. I am a photographer. I think there are photographers who might like to submit a video containing multiple images.

Personally, I think if you widened participation to include both painters and photographers, and the different ways they present things, you would make the channel that much more successful. For example, painters could still talk about their latest piece (or 3), materials used, how it was done and so forth. Additionally, photographers could talk about their series of images, the shoot, the location, the conditions, and so forth. Just my thoughts.

I did this on my magazine but few people wanted to take part

Abbie,

When? Before I was here? TBH, perhaps the reason is you did not promote it properly or enough. Had I know about it, I would have participated. How many others would have but did not because they were unaware of it will never be known.

The biggest problem is the creation of youtube videos. Because of that, there will be limited participation. However, proper promotion here and elsewhere would bring people and could end up being a featured channel.

Abbie,

Following Regina and Dan with a slightly different riff......

If FAA/Pixels, not a member, set up a Pixels YouTube channel each of us could post our videos to it. The reach might be far greater.
It could be moderated by FAA staff to meet some standards ie no nudity for Google and some image quality.

This could become an interesting and free feature for Pixels to offer. Since the videos sit there longer term, the reach would continue on
indefinitely for the Pixels community.

I am glad at least that I am getting some response. I know someone mentioned that they would prefer multiple images, but I was thinking more of an in depth analysis, and not an anthology. The thought process would be similar to this - When I read Bartleby, the Scrivener, I did not compare to other Melville writings, but instead took Bartleby and the post office as the basis of my paper, and analyzed the (bleep out of it.)

This was the basis for suggesting one piece.

Why did you create it? What feeling is it meant to convey? What are some elements of the artwork that you would like to highlight? What did you do to get that effect? etc.

Just trying to get more of a feel.

I would be happy to participate in some way.

I already have a channel and it is coming up on a million views! (a tiny drop in the Youtube ocean these days, but sure seems like a lot for me:) ) https://www.youtube.com/user/lubimiygorod

I know a few artists here on FAA are also doing quite a bit on Youtube. It is really a lot of work but can give good exposure to an artist, whether painter, photographer or other...

It is interesting to think about how a joint channel could work. I think it would be a lot easier to build up viewership than it is for an individual. Mind you, I feel like if you had a group of committed artists each with their own channel you might be able to generate an even greater overall effect, especially if you could ever get a larger group to hold together.

Meanwhile... I was so hoping to get a few more videos done during the summer and the date on the calendar today is not helping matters. august already!

A million views is excellent.

thanks Regina

I enjoy it anyway and you get the feeling there is a lot more potential there - but figuring out how to tap into it is a big challenge!

Tatiana,

That is a lot of very high quality videos. Interesting.

Do you make decent money from Adsense? I noticed ads before many of the videos.

Thank-you David. Not allowed to talk about earnings but you can find that info by searching. Youtube has really exploded in certain areas - mostly (imo) in the sense that ipads are used as babysitting devices running all day virtually non-stop. Games, kids playing, doing activities, yakking, pop music of course. There are probably more views of "minecraft" per day than people have looked at art in the history of the world! (ok maybe exaggerate) So the amount of views you can get in other (like say, "our") demographics by comparison is a tiny fraction.

One of my favourite channels is "pomplamoose". They are two partners. This piece shows how amazingly creative they are: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7X8ZnmLfM0

Anyway the guy is the same guy who started patreon, which he explains the motivation for if you follow it through...

Thanks Kim! There are threads on the discussion boards where people have posted some of their videos. Some of them are really amazing. If memory serves there may have even been a compilation of various artists or something like that?

I suggested at one time having an FAA group concerning art videos but didn't seem to be much interest, as Abbie also mentioned. I think it could be fantastic, whether here in a group or on 1st Angel or whatever but what do I know? :) Maybe it's the learning curve, the time, i don't know. It's not difficult at all to do a slide show of your work though.
