Artist Directory Questions
First, an apology. I'm an engineer by training, and as a result I'm detail-oriented, and inconsistencies and errors drive me nuts. With that in mind:
As a result of the Shopforart discussion, I figured I'd check on who are the other FAA artists in my local area. So I went to Community|Artists & Photographers. And now I have a slew of questions:
1. The default search (for me) is "Distance from Charlottesville, VA". I'd expect that all of the early results would be for artists in Charlottesville, but No. There are artists from more remote areas mixed in with the Charlottesville results, including the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th results in the list. Why?
2. It's a nit, but the heading of the search results page isn't "Artists & Photographers" but "Photographers and Visual Artists". OK, that's not a question, just an interesting inconsistency.
3. Speaking of which, since artists and photographers are differentiated, does that mean that photographers aren't artists? (Mostly kidding, guys, since I appreciate the art in good photography. I'm not trolling. But it seems odd to me that the distinction is made. I'm curious how you photographers feel about this.)
4. I came across a number of artist pages with as little as 1-10 images, "Member Since" dates from 3, 4, 5 years ago, and no evidence of recent activity. Do these apparently abandoned accounts ever get culled? The practical benefit of not culling is that it helps to boost the "we have over XXX members" number, but frankly it doesn't create a favorable impression in my mind. There's a lot of dead wood there.
5. But the big question for me is, why don't I show up in the Charlottesville search results? Am I on some sort of probation? Is the list not current? If I go to the "Distance from Charlottesville" page and then search specifically on my name, I get the result "There are no matches for the name: vic eberly". A mystery. Can you help?
