Black Core Black Mat (and Other Colours)

Unless I'm mistaken FAA don't offer a range of black core mats other than a white. This is strange; as I more often than not like a narrow inner black mat, but without the off white bevel. I hope they eventually offer more options for the buying public. I guess being a picture framer I have the luxury to try many options.

Hm. Interesting. I did not realize that. I, too, often prefer the look of that thin black line surrounding the image.

I would like to know what B&W photographers do if their artwork calls for only a black mat? I find that a thin white bevel often very distracting and can detract from the desired impact. But I guess the choice is with the buyer and most may be happy with the available possibilities. But I cant help feel that some discerning buyers may be put off buy this and opt for a print only.

We used black core mats a lot, on large design projects mostly. White core also discolorates if not entirely acid free, we noticed. FAA offers very limited options for framing but perhaps it is a good thing - give a customer too many options and they get confused and can't decide which one works better.
