Liking Artwork On Faa

In the past there seems to have been a big push to "like" artwork on FAA, because it supposedly raised that artwork in the rankings so that it might get more views. I see that now there are not very many "likes." The artwork that I view might have hundreds or thousands of "views," but just a handful of "likes." Is there or was there a reason to "like" artwork or is just a feel good thing for the artist?

I don't think any of us really know the answer. I think the general consensus is that "likes" are nice but they don't factor significantly, if at all, into FAA's computer programs for rankings.

The nice thing about "likes" is people who like your art tend to want to show it to their friends... so that could lead to a sale. You never know.

I have one person on my watch lists that "likes" their own work all the time. They must think it helps with views or ranking.

i think the likes are still there because facebook has them. they used to be used in the search, but it was abused when people found out it did something real. i don't think it helps as much now. i also don't think liking your own helps anyone. so they can like it if they want but, i don't think it helps any. i suppose for curious buyers they might take a look there, but i think your own name is under it, so it looks just sad to have only your stuff there.

"but i think your own name is under it, so it looks just sad to have only your stuff there."

My thought exactly.

Remember that at one time there were whole groups that existed to only pump up likes under the theory that it had a serious impact on ranking. Since such groups have been tamped down (I'm sure they in truth still exist) the waves of likes has dropped off.

Likes do matter, but not nearly as much as a previous record of sales.

Buyers aren't psychologists (at least not all of them...lol)...They aren't analyzing what those tabs mean. They are looking to buy art. So if they click your likes and see all of your stuff...guess what? They are seeing your stuff! Anytime you can get anyone to see your stuff is good. Traffic = sales. I do like all of my own work because I realized a long time ago that if people click on tabs you WANT them to see YOUR stuff and not the competitions. Hey that's just me. My sales are good and I am not sad.

I don't think there's tab for likes, only for favorites. I like all my own stuff too, but I can't find anywhere you can look at likes.

The favorites are your likes Loree.

You want ALL of those tabs on your profile pointing to YOU!

There is a "thumbs up" icon that is labeled Like/Vote and a "heart" icon that is labeled Favorite.

First thing I do is like/vote and favorite my image as soon as it posts. No apologies necessary.

Loree is correct. Likes and favorites are 2 different things. In the activity feed people see your favorites not likes. I don't favorite my work, but I like/vote it.

If favoriting gets your work in that "favorite' tab then that is more important. I do both....no reason not to.

I 'Like' my own work whenever possible; it gives me a little mental boost -- because I really do like my work. ;-)

I also 'Like' and 'Favorite" the work of many other artists, every day; not to move them up in search, but to let them know that someone viewed their art and truly appreciated it! :-)

(As already mentioned, Likes and Favorites are two different things, while 'Watch' is something else.)

I'm with Wendy and others - I 'like' my work, but I don't 'fave' it. I do 'fave' others, though.

Best use of "like" data would be to serve targeted emails to the tire kickers. Amazon does this all the time. They track what you browse and then remind you that you were looking at those items.
