Why Are Posts Ordered The Way They Are?

Why aren't posts displayed in reverse chronological order? Why would we want to see the very oldest posts first, given that we've probably seen them before? Can anyone change this? And wouldn't it be nice if the software allowed us to control the order we see them in ourselves?

make sure your reply order is set to oldest to newest- sometimes it changes on its own.

Yes, wouldn't that be nice. Oh wait, there's a big button right under the first post that does exactly what you're asking, lol.

I recall Abbie commenting that she prefers oldest to newest, last time this was discussed......so some like vanilla and others like chocolate, it seems.....

I can see the button on this post, but not on any that other people put out.

And I'm new here... who is Abbie?

On the discussions index page there are little arrows next to each column. Click the little arrow to get it to latest thread first

On the threads...... Actual posts, there is a big button under the top post saying oldest to newest, and vice versa

Click

Top right of the discussions page it says

Discussions are moderated by Isabella Shores. That's me but everyone calls me Abbie after one of my names (Abigail)

I am the Community Manager.... Boss of all social areas

JC Findley is the Senior Moderator and we may have another mod soon.

Thank you, Abbie! This seems to be the case with the general discussions. The problem I have seems to be confined to discussion posts put out by group administrators; Several of these group administrators have indicated that they established a sorting order that displays the 25 oldest and newest posts (allowing us to see the other posts with an additional click), implying that none of us could change that order. There are no Oldest/Newest buttons on their discussion pages.

Is it true that only posters can change the order of the posts?

No but I don't always see the newest / oldest so always do it here first and it seems to stick in the groups

back to Your question:
may be because most people want to read the question before the answer? Often there are many new questions during the discussion.

Rudi, yes, it makes sense if what's being posted is a true discussion, i.e., an exchange of ideas, in which the sequence of comments does matter. However, some group "discussions" are simply a series of posts of artworks, in which order doesn't matter.

Thank you, Abbie! I appreciate your help. You may not have been the person I should have come to with this problem. I'm new here, still learning the ropes, trying to figure out the organization behind this website and its traditions.

Crikey, don't worry about contacting me at any time, especially about community issues x
