How To Add An Artist Watermark ,signature,or Logo On Artwork After Already Downloaded.

Hi. Im fairly new here, and have already downloaded many photos on my website. A friend wants to buy something, but wants my personal signature or logo my piece before he purchases it. I didnt have any signatures on my photos when I downloaded them, and now an rethinking that and want to add something small and transparent in the corner. BUT I DONT WANT TO UNINSTALL AND REINSTALL EACH PHOTO TO ADD IT. Anyone have any suggestions or know if FAA can do a logo on them of my design or choice? I do nature photos, etc. Thanks all!!!

you'll have to sign it, then upload it again. you can edit the image that's where the upload is. you don't have to erase anything... and no you can't have a watermark, or they won't print it. a small signature should be fine. but you can't overlay something new on this site.

With over ten pages of images, I would recommend that you create some galleries!

but so you know you don't have to erase the whole thing, just edit and replace the image. i do it all the time. just make sure the signature isn't too large, block letters or have a huge copyright C on it. but yeah, while your at it, keep it organized and make galleries.

Hi there Artist Amigos.
Do most buyers like to have an Artist Signature on the Art Work?
It seems, I have seen art works on FAA that do not have an artist signature.
I'm just wondering what is best - to have or not to have. Of course the print is digital
so the signature would have to be digital. Do you have any instructions about how to
place a digital artist signature on the digital artwork?
Thank you.

That's an interesting question Tom. Back when I sold direct to my own customers, they often wanted me to hand sign the work. I never had a person request a printed signature. Most of the artists that sign their work do it because they want to not because the customer has stated they want to . To me it is a realtively recent thing and not at all reditional. Even hand signing on the print is not traditional but this is the digital age and phto edting lends itself to it. Plus some look at it like it is promotional or will help with further sales. Persona;;y I do not like the way it scales. With over a hundred sales nowI will leave well enough alone. Its just an extra step in the workflow.

What ever you do do not use a plain blocky font. They might not print it. Do not use a business name or you risk rejection at the time of sale or a hold up. Definitely don't use a web address for a signature. And don't put it right on the edge where it could get covered by a mat. They will reject that too

BRADFORD MARTIN PHOTOGRAPHY or bradmartinphotos.com would be acceptable signature. Anything that can be confused with a watermark will hold up a sale.

A signature is something for original art but not for a print and even less for potential mass production from a digital source. Think about it's growing with bigger sizes.
For me it would be a reason to look for an other image. Here are many thousands. I myself would never buy one with something destroying the overall impression.
For Your friend: sign it when he got it from FAA.

i sign all my work. its in the lower right corner, faded in there. just be very discreet. and don't hug the corners or it may get cut off

Remember that the dimensions will be different on pillows, shower covers and tote bags. So it may cut the sig off in those cases. I don't see the need for a photographer to put a signature on their work unless it was signed by hand on a mat. If someone asked me to do one just for them, I would do it. But not otherwise.

I'd be more eager to upload an avatar if I were you.

Doh! Just realized I replied to an old post.

How about doing this on a demand basis, ONLY when somebody asks?

Wait for the request. Bypass FAA altogether. Take the image to a local printer, where you receive the print personally, sign it, and ship it yourself, after payment for the order, of course. And charge appropriately.

As others have pointed out, FAA does NOT offer an option to receive a signed print, nor does it offer the website interface to pull this off. It's just not part of the game here, so no real love lost for handling it all yourself, since business is business.

If you start getting lots of requests, then just start doing or redoing all your uploads to include an unobtrusive signature, since you would have decided that your market wanted this. This is not the same as a live signature, of course, but it might suffice.

Hey there mi Artist Amigos,
Thanks for all the comments and ideas, it's all helpful and good food for thought.
When I was browsing around looking at some of the FAA galleries if I remember
correctly it seemed to me that most of the art work being displayed didn't have a
visible artist signature, even if the work looked like a painting of some kind. All
my life not in cyber space but in the 3D world I have always seen artist signatures
on paintings and prints, but can you verify my guess that maybe in the cyber space
digital art market things are a little different in regard to signatures?
Some of the work I'm putting online looks like paintings or drawings because I start out
with a painting or drawing and then create a digital art work out of it. And some people
might expect to see a signature on a work like that. I think I did see some signatures on
some of the FAA paintings. Now, photography may be a category where a signature is
not expected, because I don't recall seeing signatures on photographs. Like, I've seen
a lot of Ansel Adams photos but I don't remember seeing his signature on them; or am
I just blind? ... or non functional, which is it? Hope I didn't say too many words here
but it just came out. OOps.

Thanks again for the helpful thoughts.
Tom
