Licensing A Photograph

Hello Members,

I need your help. Does any one have licensing experience?

Can anyone shed some light on licensing a photograph taken 35 + years ago. What are the basic rules if any?
Is there standard range of licensing fee (in $$ amount) for international usage of your image?
Is there initial fee plus royalty or no up front monies but royalty?
If no money up front what is reasonable royalty expected to print your image on a product - for example royalty for 1000, 3000, 5000?

This photograph, taken by me, is of some semi-famous/popular artists and not easily available nowadays.

I know I am asking lot of question and there are many variables but I do not have any idea regarding licensing a photograph and any help will be appreciated.

You don't mention if the photo was taken by you, or are you looking at obtaining a licence?

The type of use, length of time and amount of distribution all affect the price. Also it is more if they want an exclusive on he image. Usually you would want a flat fee that allows up to a certain amount of copies and a given length of time and then if they ever want to exceed that you can renegotiate. The rarity of the photo also affects the price and then of course it is up to you how low you will go and up to them how high in any negotiating.
