Calling All Digital Artists For Your Opinion......

Hello!

I am currently writing an article for our FAA group "Digital Touch" and for some local artists' groups about the appeal and process of digital art.
I began to wonder what you, if you are a digital artist, think about these topics:

A) What is the appeal of making digital art for you? (What aspect of the process do you enjoy the most?)

B) What is the appeal for you as a viewer?

Thanks so much for your respectful feedback and opinions!

I appreciate your participation and mind!

Cheers to you and yours!
Have a great week & weekend!

Did you re-image them with digital tools?

If so yes, that makes it digital art ( mixed media)

A) I think the quote by Neville Brody sums up my feelings on the subject: "Digital design is like painting, except the paint never dries." You're never really done with a digital piece because there are always ways to change and reinvent it to make it completely new and original. The digital process also allows for a great range of flexibility when working with a variety of styles and mediums.

B) I can't say that digital art appeals to me more than any other form; it depends on the finished product like anything else. I just know I personally like the digital creation process more.

ok, well if this counts as digital art then I will give my 2 cents lol. sorry, ive been at this for a short time. Like a week.

1) I prefer digital art because It allows me to create the image I have in my head using real photos. It gives me a sense of reality plus things dreams are made of. It allows a element of fiction to bring out the image in my head vs only what my camera can catch.

2) A lot of digital art has a sense of darkness to it. And for some reason I am really drawn to this type of art. It has this element of looking real kind of like special effects. sometimes a computer can do what paint cannot do. not that there is anything wrong with painting. its beautiful as well. but the realness of the digital art that ive seen is what attracts me.

that being said I don't think my images count but that's my 2 cents lol

For me as I use digital it is painting. The tools or brushes are different and the mixing of color is different. But the building of a painting remains mostly the same... that is what I enjoy the most. The process of painting in this medium satisfies my desire to paint. What appeals to me most is the lack of mess and fumes.

I agree with April ...it is always the finished piece that will appeal to me...not the medium.

I do quite a bit of graphic work with Adobe Illustrator. I enjoy being able to easily create shapes, draw and edit lines, change colors, easily change many aspects of the image, for example, reflecting to make a mirror image or rotating to an exact degree. There are a lot of ways to be creative with the software. I also like to make repeating pattern tiles for use on POD projects.

As a former design engineer, I love the precision. Other things I love are the millions of color choices, that it doesn't take up an entire room in the house to do, no need to keep buying paints, brushes, projectors, canvas, paper, the "undo" button, no dry time, brilliant lighting, brilliant colors, odorless, boundless as your creativity allows, and the only limitations are self imposed.

The appeal of digital art started out as a way to lay out my paintings and see what color combinations work best. I have fully realized the potential of digital art and do allot of my work now completely this way. What I love the best is being able to try anything I can think of in a quick way to see how it works with the rest of the painting. And there is no mess!

I enjoy traditional painting and digital. One thing I like about digital is the control it gives me. I can undo anything I want and save different versions and, if I have based the image on a photograph, still have the original untouched version. I enjoy the process of drawing freehand with digital tools and the instantaneous nature of any changes. It is just as rewarding as traditional methods and quicker.

I love to look at digital art. I have tried doing it but it just turns out looking like the identifiable tools that I use. Any digital artist can tell what tools I used. I don't like that. I would need to study up like crazy to compete in that field.

I have spent years learning and practicing with watercolor, I can't see me starting something like digital art. I have found my place in WC and I think it would be very difficult to copy my style. I feel my style is unique in it. My flowers anyway.

So I'll leave the digital work to you guys and gals! But I like to see it.

A) What is the appeal of making digital art for you?

I do 3d modeling and rendering, and I like that I can approximate realism by using setups and tools that would be impossible to recreate using physical media. Surely there are highly skilled photorealistic painters, but what I do digitally is more akin to model making and creating miniatures than it is to painting. I love that I can create entire worlds and then choose to only show a specific bit of it. On the technical side, I like that I can revisit a work over and over and turn it into something completely different without sacrificing the original file.

B) What is the appeal for you as a viewer?

I love any art that appeals to me. I'm not medium biased. I do like looking at the work of other digital artists because it inspires me to get better at what I do. It gives me ideas, and I find it exciting to see how far digital media has come and how many amazing artists are out there working in digital now.

Digital Art is such a big field of so many forms of work, and each one has its own appeal. Right now, I'm exploring, moving back and forth between photography, digital drawing, and making 3d sculptures to populate the virtual world. Its a great amount of fun, even though there is a very high learning curve with the technology side. I'm hooked and can't stop. I think one of the things I like most about viewing art in virtual simulations, is the ability to "walk through a painting". I never thought a computer could be so inspiring, until I started working with it.
