Advice For New Member

HI, I just uploaded my 25 photos. Please check out my site and give me any advice. Does anyone ever sell anything on here? What are my chances? Also, can I opp out of the pillows, duvets, etc. if I want to? I didn't see that there was an option. Do you feel it cheapens your work? Lots of questions. Thanks! http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/lucy-moorman.html?tab=artwork

Anything you don't want to sell like phone cases, throw pillows, etc. just don't add a price to.

Watch you horizons with water especially. Some are leaning heavily to the left

add prices to the things you want to sell. however the less you have the less your chances are at selling. i sell here.

i'm not sure what you mean by advice - critique your photos or something else? i can tell you that you should have straight horizons, and i'll leave it at that unless noted.

you'll want descriptions on everything. don't assume that images are self explanatory. google doesn't know what this is beyond title. add more keywords.

the bio is rather wordy and show offy and it says lucy too many times. describe it from you in the first person, i'd leave our awards and such it won't help you to sell anything. focus on what you sell here. the bio goes on and on and on... keep it to 2 short paragraphs. not many will click on the see more link - and it seems the stuff listed on the bottom should be at the top.

you have to advertise, don't depend on the site doing it.

Welcome Lucy, my advise is make sure you know what you are shooting and give it a proper tag in order to be found during search, this one is a tulip.

Thanks for the advice, guys! I changed my bio. As for the leaning photos, not sure how that happened. I'll prob. just delete the Hawaiian Sunset 2. As for keywords, not sure how to come up with more words sometimes. How are my prices?

Thanks Alfred, I'll do that. Are you sure that's a tulip? I think it was in a hanging basket--not very tulip like.

you have to edit them to straighten them up, but usually the angle is because the camera is crooked...

prices are up to you. they are too low for me, but that's me... i do charge more for a card because they are framed by people.

you just have to see what's in the image for tags

it is a double tulip. I paint enough to know, also with the leaves and petals it is a tulip.

Thanks, Mike, great advice and names for tags. Can I edit/ straighten on the site or do I have to go back into my photo program and upload it again?

Thanks Alfred, tulip it is!

you'll have to straighten it at home, then edit and upload it. the tags and such can be done here.

Most anything has the potential to sell. You as the artist have to find that audience. Ask yourself, "would I pay for a print of this to hang on my wall?". If the answer is yes, then you have to ask who would? And then you have to find ways to connect to those people.

In your case, it's tourists. People who have an emotional connection to a place are the potential buyers. Casual tourists, not so much. How do you find them? Give Google something to look at. You only have a few keywords. Try http://www.mykeyworder.com/. It'll help find more keywords that people might be searching on. For example, your "Kilauea Volcano Hawaii" shot does not include the word Kilauea in the keywords. Is there a nearby town? Use that too. Is this part of a state or national park? Include that name in the keywords also.

Your "Valley Of The Temples" shots caught my eye because that place has been featured in several episodes of the original Jack Lord "Hawaii Five-O". One of those shots is not very compelling. It lacks contrast and and saturation. The other shot has much better color and composition, but is actually a little too dark. Some practice with editing software would bring both of these out and make them pop.

Talented! I think you have some amazing shots. Good luck!
