Oh, shoot, we're under a tornado watch until 3:00. I would otherwise go out and look. I'm in lower Michigan, though so I don't know if it would be seen this far south....

Cool event, although not when it blocks radio transmissions.

Solar Flare and Coronal Mass Ejection (6/18/2015)

We don't have as many tornadoes here as the "tornado belt". I'll be sleeping if it hits.

I really want to see the northern lights some time. It's one of the things I've alway wanted to see. Every time there's a major meteor shower here, it seems like it's cloudy as well.

Some day.....

That's pretty cool, Ricardo. This stuff fascinates me.....

Mary, you sound so calm. I get excited and energized by big storms. I think I must have been a storm chaser in a past life ;-)

"What Damage Could Be Caused by a Massive Solar Storm?

An enormous solar storm could short out telecom satellites, radio communications, and power grids, leading to trillions of dollars in damages, experts say"

Well, I just checked my weather app and they were a little vague. It seems to be mostly centered a bit north of me. I'm pretty sure I'll still be here in the morning ;-).

I might stick my head out the door in a minute to see if it's cloudy. It did clear up earlier. My house faces north - I'm assuming that's where I would see it if there's anything to see.

Ok, I went out on my porch and it's clear directly overhead, but north west of me all I see are clouds and heat lightning. No flashing colors. I think I'm too far south.

Interesting article, Ricardo. A little unsettling, but interesting.

Mary - can't believe you are not out WATCHING for a tornado! There have been like 4 pass within a few miles of here in the last 25 years - never saw one. The last one I saw was in Huntsville, AL - oh, about 1974. But - this is Florida - and we used to go out an 'play' in the hurricanes - until they go t really bad - then go out as the eye passed over - everything so still - then back under cover as it went on by. Our biggest problem - out on the farm - was high water from the creek - and the mess to clean up after - but don't recall it ever damaged any of our farm buildings or the animals or chickens. We had gas for cooking - so even the power off wasn't a big deal - and it didn't usually stay off more than a few hours. And with our own well, that you hand pumped - we had water.

Ive got 2 old oak trees that were uprooted on my land and that was just my land. My neighbors weren't so lucky.

didn't see anything when I looked out the windows at 2am... so I went back to sleep...

funny thing did happen yesterday that I thought might be related to the storm. I ran my normal run... I know the distances and where each 1k is... my phone added about 20% to the distance... but not constantly... so the first K was 3 minutes and the next was 4.5 etc...

In the end it said my 5k time was 19:20... I wish... I run a leisurely 24-25 minutes... so I'm thinking the storm did it... or aliens... could be either really

Some news about Aurora Borealis' sister: Aurora Australis (it is visible from high southern latitudes in Antarctica, South America, New Zealand, and Australia)

"Aurora Australis southern lights stun New Zealand

New Zealand's South Island, and some parts of Australia, have been treated to the Aurora Australis, a natural light display in the sky.
A solar storm meant that the Aurora Australis, the southern counterpart of the Aurora Borealis, was visible much further north than it usually is.
Aurorae occur when cosmic rays or solar wind interact with the earth's upper atmosphere."
