Making The Move From Stock Photography...i Think I Like It :)

I've been doing stock photography for several years and I had dabbled half heartedly on this site a while ago and forgot about it. I found the bookmark on my phone a couple of weeks ago and thought to myself that it had been a while since i'd checked on my account. Imagine my shock when i found out i'd actually made a sale and it happened just a few days prior to me checking the site! Anyhow that was the push i needed to get back into selling my work on here. So I've been going through my catalog of photos finding new uses for all the stuff i couldn't use for stock and shooting some new stuff too...and it's been a blast! Stock photography is so stuffy and technical, it's been nice to be able to play around and get a little creative with my photos and not have to stick to strict rules. I will say that shooting stock has made me a better photographer overall, but i think i enjoy doing this way more :) Just wanted to say hi to everybody and share my experience. So have fun and good luck!

You'll also find art customers will usually pay more for a good piece of art. Most of your current portfolio have a artistic touch so they should sell pretty well. I would continue focusing on uploading stuff you have that is more artistic than stock. And technical quality is still an issue for art, faa will check all sales for printability before the sale is complete, ie, noise, sharpness, etc. If there is any print issues with your image, they will give you a warning and up to 24 hours to correct it, otherwise they will cancel the order.

Hi Michael! I noticed that many of your superb images would look awesome as phone cases! Especially the one with the chains, and other abstract ones. It will be fun to play around and see how your images look on pillows, duvets, etc....and many already are perfect for prints. Yes, with the new product lines coming in, everyone seems to be having a bit more fun on here, and more sales to one's credit certainly doesn't hurt :)

Stock is a great place to learn. They have the highest standards and you learn to shoot with customers in mind. A couple of years in stock paid for all my equipment and taught me a lot. Once my sales took off here, stock took the back burner. Only some images work for both areas but you do see some stock type sales here. Things people might display in an office building for example.

Tip - you might want to rethink the feet as your avatar. In many parts of the world that's an insult.
