Ho...lee...AWESOMESAUCE ! !
It totally works.
I just installed the pixels app, jumped to my account, printed out the target, and spent 15 minutes taping it to walls all over my house. That's some crazy cool, real-time, dynamic graphical update stuff going on!
Super fast responsiveness with my iPhone 6.
What I learned so far:
- If you put the target too close to another object/doorway, the "magic" illusion is somewhat lost since, obviously, the app superimposes an image on top of your live image...it doesn't "know" that your lamp is a lamp and not a wall. Not a big deal; just reposition the target and/or move the camera.
- The field of view is pretty wide both horizontally and vertically -- as long as the target is visible and legible. I walked along the hallway, and the image kept changing angles and proportions as well enough to get the gist. I went up some stairs, and the image reacted the same way -- also gave me a better perspective in relation to the other art already hanging on the wall.
- The pixles.com image's luminance is nice and bright. Again, not a shortcoming, but it's amusing (and great!) to see it when the target wall is illuminated much less and/or there's a window with daylight within the camera's field of view...which causes the auto exposure to do it's thing to average out the scene. The artwork practically glows (in a good way) against poorly lit surfaces.
- Not to sound [too] greedy: It'd be even more totally awesome if/when the app/phone has the capability to project multiple images simultaneously. I can absolutely see clients getting an incredible visualization of their wall with a series of prints on it...and saying SOLD! SOLD! SOLD!
Huge THANKS to the team for developing this!
