Pricing

Hi to all, I've been a member on FAA for a month, and basically new to the world of photography, and art. (as art) in general, but I' understand business, marketing, procurement and such..
I am interested in selling stock images directly from my own website as a primary source of revenue, over time.. So far I've Uploaded 450 images or so, in truth, I'm sitting on over 30 thousand, and that grows by the day.
I have a means for the 'physical product' in that I' live on a tourist laden river that hosts 1000 plus business owners, with wall space, shelves and racks. I've approached 5 vendors and I've locked in 5 deals, so I' know what I' have, 'sells itself.
I'm interested in Numbers.. for 'stock images' just to know where to begin.. also, any who consider themselves an expert' in the field of 'stock image' photography. I'd love to share a message or two with if possible. thanks for reading.

most people don't make a ton off of stock, unless they can sell it directly to a company and do the dealings and contracts themselves. i have to tell you though, i'm not sure where your stock really fits in though. its rather blurry on the ones i clicked. a normal stock company probably would not accept them as they are into very high standards. i guess they have a texture quality to them. many people have lots of images, and its a very tough field to get into. i think it used to be very good, but with more and more people adding to the pile, your looking at cents per piece.

Stock is not the same as Fine Art although there is some cross over. Stock primarily deals with images that have commercial value for use in advertisements, blogs, magazines, commercials etc. Things like food photographs, lifestyle images of people doing things, images with copy space etc. You need images that are in demand and can sell over and over.

Microstock has the highest standards in the industry.

It's not like the camera is an ATM machine where you just push the button and let it click away. You have to consider your market. Most buyers require an image in focus.

And by the way I don't think I've ever come across a product that "sells it self".

In reality, you are sitting on a bunch of images. I hope I'm not the first person to tell you not to count your money until it's in your PayPal account.
Yes, you are new to the photography/art world.
Best of luck!

my suggestion is, if you have 5 vendors locked... keep them and find more. numbers never come right away.

I have to find these vendors. I have 80,000 images just sitting on my hard drive.

i'm curious as to the deal you got with those vendors. is it one of those - we will pay you if they sell, and all you have to do is provide us with work already finished? or is it some other deal? usually people don't walk into stores and sell their wares just like that unless there is a huge catch.

Can you help me understand what the base price that I would pay FAA for a product such as a small pillow before my artwork is applied? Is this like Cafe Press? What does FAA charge for the pillow itself so I would know what to charge if my artwork was placed on it. I can't seem to find that out any where on the website. I would like to find pricing for all products if you could point me in the right direction. Thank you.

Pat - go behind the scenes - default prices - enter in the profit you want to make on each variation.

Or alternatively edit each product individually and enter in the profit you want. Leave a box blank if you don't want to offer something.
