Image Size

Hello.
New here and only have a few images so far but got feeling i am doing things wrong. I looked at the heron i just posted and
looked at images below the main one and looks like his head is cut off on most.

Do i need to upload images 8x10, 11x14 or whatever in order to have full image show or is the image OK ?.

Already found out to upload with no borders so need to go back and fix them.

Plus i see i goofed on the prices.
Thanks for any help.
Vicky

Take the picture with the highest quality and resolution settings of your camera. Don´t change the size after cropping the borders, before you upload the picture.

I'm not seeing any cut off heads. But sometimes the thumbnail will look more square than the actual image,

That helped a lot about file size and cropping.

My BAD. As for the heads not there i must be getting older than i am already, lol.

I was just looking at the lower small images, now see it all shows if i look at the larger top image.

Thanks. Vicky

I have been a member since 2010. For whatever reasons, I have not uploaded anything yet, but now I want to get it started. Do I upload a full size JPEG? Does the full size JPEG go to a place not seen by the public and a re sized (small Image) get put on your page? Very confused on what size to upload, and worried about theft of those images. I size them super small if I post any on FB, and still see some of them that have been shared all over.

Catherine, the high resolution photos you upload are kept on a server in a location that's not available to the viewing public.

FAA generates a 900 pixel tall version for the image page and smaller versions for thumbnails, etc. Your work is safe. Upload the highest resolution images you can.

If you share your work on the internet, it will probably get re-used by someone at some point. But the only thing that will be available from here is a relatively small image, and since FAA prohibits right clicking on the site (to make it hard to "save image"), it takes a little effort for a person to take your preview images.

It's a tradeoff. You want to show your work online, you have to be ok with people sharing/using it. You want to sell, you have to show them large enough previews that they can see detail. True theft—images taken for the purpose of re-selling elsewhere—isn't all that common.

Catherine,

As Cynthia says, upload your best file and I would assume you're creating a RAW file and then saving as a jpeg. As long as that jpeg is under 25mb, it will be fine. If you have a file larger, just change that "quality setting" from 12 to 11 and see if that brings it down to under 24-25mb. The uploader has it's good and bad days, so get comfortable,

Rich

Thank you so much Rich and Cynthia, for all the info and responding so quickly. So to reiterate, when I upload my best file in JPEG, the system will automatically save that one where the public can't see it, and then create a thumbnail for the public.
And yes, I shoot in RAW, then save in JPEG once I get it processed. :)

Yes, to what you just said. If you don't post photos or art online, they can't be stolen. Of course, they can't be sold either.
