the back has a brown paper backing that helps to diffuse the light, and the backs are entirely flat, so they really are as thin as they look. They mount like an acrylic does - with the 4 corners screwing into the wall. You can also do what I did and have 2 longer pegs on the bottom so they stand up like a picture frame :)
The manufacturer is a chinese one - I'll let you do some research on your own for that ;)
I am going to see if I can reverse engineer them and actually make my ow, as the concept is actually not different than the shadowbox lightboxes I made:)
and yeah the chic thin look is great.. they are less than a cm thick :)
They will, however, illuminate ANYTHING that is on them, including dust that gets in between the panes, and finger prints, and little bits and stuff and scratches.. so much care has to go into putting them together - I had to clean them with cloth as I assembled them.
