Downgrade Membership

I have been on Fine Art America for almost two years now and I haven't made even one sale. I want to downgrade from a premium membership to a free membership but can't seem to figure out how to do that. Can anyone help me out?

You want to do that now?

You've got good work, take some time to find more keywords and write descriptions if/when you go down to 25 images along with promoting it and I suspect you'll get sales. Sadly it's difficult to find buyers without taking the time to put the work into the marketing side of things, which includes keywording and creating descriptions.

EDIT:

I take it you're aware that you're also offering at least some of your work as licenced stock photography on a site called dreamstime?

there is no function other than to remove cc info. but unless you advertise you wont' be seen. you have to tell people your here, add a bio, add descriptions, add locations, check for noise and clarity. the site doesn't sell for you. you have to do the work.

Sometimes it's true that we get out of things what we put into them. Two years in and still no bio. You've got some really good work, but you need to help people find you.

Greetings Xenia, If I am not mistaken I think it was about a year or so before I landed my first sales and few smaller ones thereafter. Hard work, self promotion, patience I too like everyone else here agree you do gave a very beautiful and stunning gallery!!!!! Like most situations you must market your work and in the long run success will no doubt become the outcome. Do what you need to do to generate as much as you can google will eventually pick it up. Also, consider signing your name as "photographer" its not just photography but you are a photographer first hand.

I can only assume you have crossed referenced your name using various forms. Check to make sure what seems to generate more flow of your personal identifiable business Best of luck with your decision.

Cheers,

It took me 22 months to get my first sale. Have only had two more since, but I won't give up my premium membership. Thirty bucks a year is a great price for a professional online portfolio gallery that will ALSO fulfill any orders you may get.

If 2.50 a month for unlimited uploads and your own website is too much, then you throw away the work you've already put in place in having a proper internet presence.

It's good to have an online presence - and a good portfolio is quite rare in the grander scheme of things

Does someone have an answer to the question Xenia asked? Can you keep your original gallery and reduce it back to 25 images?

Abbie Shores

I just need to know if she wants to do that now or not

Joshua House

It would help a lot if people didn't abandon their threads yeah.

I agree, Joshua!

To be on the safe side, I would put my Top 25 together and then contact Abbie. Correct me if I'm wrong, but she can keep her other images up. They just won't be seen, right. ThAt way if she changes her mind, then they're still there?

Thanks to everyone who tried to help or offer some sort of positive feedback! I just paid my membership recently so will be keeping my premium for now but was thinking if i don't make any sales within the next year, then I will consider downgrading. The answer to my question I have received would be to remove my credit card info but when i tried that (thinking it would just cancel auto renewal), it wouldn't let me. I will go back and try again. Maybe I just made a mistake somewhere. Again, thanks to everyone who tried to help. As for the ignorant comment about me abandoning my thread..... Maybe you should consider that I may have just been busy. Celebrating my daughters birthday and spending a special day with her takes priority. I always figure people will understand that I have a life outside of fine art america. Before being rude to anyone else..... please keep in mind you know nothing about that person and you have no right to place any sort of judgement.

Thank You

Xenia,
I'm glad you decided to hang in there for a while longer. Your work is awesome. Happy Birthday to your daughter. She's blessed that you put her up high on your priority list. Good luck!

I needed to know if you wanted it done then as I close them for you. I can also give refunds if you change your mind quickly

I opened my FAA account with the freebie 25 image showing a year ago. I do it only for the exposure. Perhaps in the future, I will offer only greeting cards with the profits going to a local animal shelter. I am still pondering the thought.

Abbie,
I'm guessing there was no response to you because not everyone knows you are a moderator or that a blue background denotes that and you have the ability to help her.....also...not everyone knows that 'abbie' is you...especially listed as you are now.

Mike Savad

no way to know if you were at a birthday either... in any case, best to advertise the work and tell people your here. uploading here and letting them sit, isn't a way to get sales.

Now that you are staying, put together a business plan. Figure out what you need to do to build up views. Start creating and implementing your plan now and keep at it so perhaps when the Christmas season roll around you'll be in a good position to pick up some sales.

Xenia Headley

Thanks for the advice Edward Fielding. I will give it my best shot.
Thank you Kathy K. Thats very thoughtful and appreciated.
Sorry Abbie, I didn't realize you were a moderator. I will keep my premium membership for now and if I choose to downgrade once my year is up, I will contact you :-)

Thanks so much to everyone who tried to help out :-)

So sorry I didn't use my vast psychic abilities to read your mind and know you'd be leaving to go to a birthday party. I guess that makes me ignorant.

Abbie, I know I've gotten banned for calling people ignorant, I've gotten banned for implying people were ignorant. I've also gotten banned for saying that people who whine about shipping costs shouldn't expect others to take a hit to help them out, hell you once threatened to ban me because I defended the site from some a member's claims that FAA was an Islamist front organization.

Why is it that Xenia wasn't for calling Jessica and I ignorant temp banned? Is ignorance of the rules an excuse now?

I've thought about doing the same thing. I decided to give premium a try, last June, but have made ONLY one sale the entire year. It's already renewed for another year, so I'll just leave it for now. And, Mike, I've advertised outside of FAA, added keywords, even tried promotional coupons.....none of which has brought in any more sales, yet. To those who may think I need more works, I can't always get to the coast ( or wherever) to get more photos.

Mike Savad

if you advertised and your not selling, then it may mean that people either don't want that art on their walls. or that the market is saturated with that type of thing. if you can't get landscape get something more local, do digital art, do something you can do. part of the issue i think is your long long name. people often look for others in the search and not many will spell your first name and the rest are filters.

you should get more followers, stop posting images, and start posting hashtags. only the people in your stream will see those images, and chances are, they may never click on them. someone looking for art won't find yours on twitter because of that.

it's also a constant thing promoting once and a while isn't enough. you have to do some a day. on twitter it looks like you did them once a week or so. it takes a long time to sell anything. and you do need more choices.

Mike, does anyone actually look for art on Twitter?

Mike Savad

hard to say, don't have the stats. i do know people fav it and then i get a sale sometime in that week. i think people use where ever they are the most comfortable. twitter bots find these if the tags are used. google can even find them depending how they are worded.

i would place it under the same label as - do people look for art on facebook.... lots of people advertise on twitter hoping to get business.

Not familiar with using hashtags, Mike, but just tried one. Still don't see how others will find my post.

Mike Savad

depends on the tag. #bagel. you may end up with bagel lovers, makers etc. you'll need more than 1.

Patricia, people look for events, happenings, places and things on Twitter. They use hashtags to search for these.

My hashtags have shown up under things they fit and I have gained followers who are NOT artists. That is what I need more of. non artist followers ::)

It seems that artist and photographers that have large amounts of material say 500, 1000, 3000 pieces by default will get 1000 views compared to 1 of your views. So they will get more sales on that alone. I have seen some with lower amounts of content, but they got featured which is the real ticket to moving product here without volume. Just my opinion. I have seen plenty of amazing paintings and photos with 25 views in a year and mediocre ones that were featured get 10,000 a day.

Mike Savad

the mediocre ones advertised. and the good ones didn't do a thing.

Correct. You must market your work. I get the amount of views you have gotten (total) in two years, in about 5 days. It takes A LOT of views to make sales. So it takes A LOT of social media marketing to get the views. Building a following on Social Media takes a big time commitment, but it does pay off eventually. I blog, tweet, google, linkedin, stumble, tumble, pin, wanelo and facebook multiple times a day almost every day. I reblog others, re-tweet others, 1+ others, stumble others, pin others, etc. and many reciprocate. It's called networking and it does work! Making comments on other's blogs has been a HUGE help for me! Glad you are staying...beautiful work!

You have 26 images.

There is a direct relationship in the number of images you upload and the number you will sell. That is of course unless you are famous already or have your own following. But I think at this point that is for sure not the case.

You are paying for unlimited uploads. To maximize your potential here you need to upload as much art as you can.

You need to understand what will and what will not be the best utilization of your time.

I make more sales and get more commissions on Facebook. I just mainly use FAA for a portfolio for people to see my work. I also sell on ebay, and I've had good luck. But I'm a painter, and there is no way to compete with the volume a photographer can upload. This site has millions of photos on it. I've been here since 2012 and I promote 7 days a week. My sales have been few and far between. I suspect there are a few photographers that get more sales due to the sheer volume of photos they have uploaded.
