Shameless Self Promotion - Kickstarter

If anyone else has a Kickstarter campaign feel free to add it.

Just launched my 4th campaign (hopefully adding a 3rd to 2 already successful ones) for my 2016 Marshmallow Microcosm calendar.
2014 and 2015 were both funded from Kickstarter contributors, less than an hour into this one and already 20% funded :)

A little tip: if you've had successful campaigns in the past, step one after launching is posting an update on their pages or messaging your backers from those. This always gets an immediate response!

Awesome work Heather! This just kickstarted me into finishing up my 2016 calendar and putting it up through Kickstarter. :)

I'm certain I've asked this before but who do you use for printing?

I'm all for shameless self promotion if it gets us kick-started too. Great work Heather - best of luck!

@Joshua, I'm pretty sure, but Heather can confirm when she comes back, that she uses Printing Center USA for printing.

I pm'd him the info.

Thanks guys!

Another tip: set the bar low
You have a higher chance of being over funded if you set it low - once you hit the target, more people start pouring in funds, since they know it will be successful and they'll get the rewards.

Heather, do find it better to give yourself less time or more to achieve goal?

Way to go Heather!

I do 30 days.

60 just drags it out way too long. I aim to reach to goal within 10 days or sooner of the deadline, so the last couple weeks are a push to get the folks who contribute only when projects are close to or fully funded.

Best of luck, Heather! Your marshmallow idea is very clever!

Thanks!

Not yet 24 hours in and nearly half way to my goal. I know i can get close to 100 calendars with my goal money, which is why i set the bar low - even if I just make that I'm set. Past experience tells me it will go well over, both previous campaigns went to over the $1k mark.

Heather, it is so refreshing to see someone who is a go-getter and not sitting on their couch eating potato chips and moaning about the world not coming to them and showering them with money.

You go girl!

Calling Abbie.... spammer has hit the boards...

Edward - photography is my job, I can't afford to sit around! Unless I'm editing for the million hours I do a week that is...

So basically you're selling by using Kickstarter?

Heather Applegate

Louise - I use it for pre-sales so that I can use the funds to do my bulk ordering, and buying supplies for it. So yes. I do order far more than those on Kickstarter get as "rewards" though, and sell online and at festivals.

I've set it to state that rewards will go out in the mail by August.
The campaign ends in mid June, I'll have pretty much everything photographed by then. I'll order by end of June and have them on my doorstep by the first week of July. My own deadline to have them in hand is July 10th.

Unique work!

3 days in, 60% funded

Since Kickstarter selected it as a "Staff Pick" I picked up 2 more contributors immediately following. Getting picked gets you on at least one other feature page, and in my case two feature pages for promoting two different aspects. Pretty nifty.

Kickstarter tip #3: Do a video. No matter what the project - even if its just a slideshow, have a video. People like to click a button and watch anything - beats static photos any day.

Day 4
96% funded

Now who else is joining me on Kickstarter with their work?

Heather Applegate

Well I've got 4 days left.
The amount I've made from this is half of what I did last year and the year before, and the only difference is that I did this one in May-June, just as kids got off school and everyone went on vacation.

Lesson learned. Next year I will do it in April-May. I really don't want to wait until September as I have in the past and next year's will be my last of the marshmallow series.
At least I've made more than my goal so mission accomplished, just won't be ordering as many as last year!

MY first Kickstarter project. Any ideas on promoting it? I've already put it on my Facebook, atwitter and Linkedin pages.
