Hideous Daubs

This thread was influenced by another thread where I referred to Impressionism as "Hideous Daubs." Is there a style of art that you feel this term would fit well? What style would this term least fit?

"Hideous" is a matter of opinion.
I would refer to most modernism as "hideous smears".
Realism is the furthest thing from "daubs" and "smears".

Ah, and I would refer to realism as a waste of time, creating what I consider to be uncreative dribble.

I only consider it "uncreative" when it's attempting to duplicate something a camera can achieve.

Just messing with you but I would agree with that.

Daub - ... something created by coating or smearing (a surface) with a thick or sticky substance in a carelessly rough or liberal way:

Yeah, I admit it, I had to look it up.

Style of art most deserving of the term? - not any one style, but in ANY style, there are such things.

Style of art least deserving of the term? - any of the old masters or new masters of realism, I'd say.

Some realistic painters might call my FLUIDISM original paintings by such a name. They ARE messes, but even more, they are messterpieces. (^_^)

I'm thinking that may be what lead some toward impressionism.
An attempt to add creativity to an otherwise "normal" image.

normal image

Expect an assault of opposing views on that one, Joe B.

Stand by, ... I feel them storming in now. (^_^)

Funny, because I just came back in here to cover myself.

I would add that I am constantly amazed at the techniques and skill required to paint truly fantastic realism.
Much more so than fluidism :)

I totally agree. My favorite art tends to be realistic painting.

I am such a hack!

Even so, some of my hideous daubs hang in the houses of people who actually paid money for my smears.

That's saying something.

Perhaps it says that reality is fluid.

impressionism is 'hideous daubs"? I like almost all genres, but impressionism is my favorite to paint. LOL

Is it bad to have art that would be easily described as "Hideous Daubs?" It sounds so cool to me. I also like crisp clean work done without any sloppiness.

Most photography is "hideous daubs," documented uplifts from the real, natural world, then passed along on a website as somebody's artistic creation.

How about "digital dots"?

Can we slam them as well?
