Using Instagram To Promote Work

Just curious on everyones thoughts? I post some of my images on it, but not all. I have some images I feel probably aren't worthy of trying to sell, but good enough to share, and it's a good way to go about it. In my opinion the pros and cons...

pros

-easy way to get noticed and potentially drive people to your site
-another way to share photos in a more relaxed setting

cons

-images that are not square have to be fitted in a program like square ready or cropped to fill the entire square, therefore not showing the image in its entirety or making it almost to small to appreciate.

-you fall into the mix of thousands of images taken from a cell phone. Some of the images are really good, but there are lots of someones meal or a blown out over saturated sunset. Not sure if that is good or bad.

Thoughts?

Instagram is an incredible tool. I know tons of artists on etsy who have built their business off instagram. The power of hashtags can definitely help get someone noticed. Just by tagging Nordstrom on one of my shots where the model was wearing a dress from Nordstrom they asked if they could use the photo on their website (be smart about usage and rights, obviously). That's pretty big, for a huge company to notice an artist off of Instagram, of all places. You can certainly use it to your advantage.
You can upload images that are taken with any device, not just immediately from your phone. I upload images to IG from dropbox 90% of the time. Yes, it has to be either cropped or made into a square with Square It or similar apps, but the pros outweigh the cons to me.
People want to connect with the artist behind the work, I think IG is an excellent way to do it.

Can I ask how you share them on there? Do you take pictures of them with your phone and then share to Instagram? I have a total of 1 picture on there as I don't have a "smart phone"

I have the Dropbox app on my phone. I open the picture on Dropbox, tell it to save to the device, open IG, tell it to use the newest photo on the device (it should be the first photo it gives you an option to use). You need a smartphone for IG, as far as I know I don't know of any other way to upload photos to IG. You can browse it from a browser, however.
