Wine Promotion Did You Do It Last Year?

I want to thank Greg Jackson for starting the first thread on this year's wine promotion.

I was hoping to hear more from some of the people that actually tried to use this promotion last year and what your success was or was not.

Meaning you tried it and got nothing? Thanks

I wasn't here last year. But I'd like to know why I still haven't received an email about the promotion. I wonder how many others never received one and don't frequent the forums.

i tried it a few times, i have no idea if i had takers, because i don't think they tell you. there are too many restrictions. i can't say how many people will want wine because they bought art.

Not a lot of wine lovers buying train pictures apparently.

Good point Joseph. But wasn't there that guy driving a train that got in a wreck not to long ago? Little too much vino maybe? lol

" i have no idea if i had takers, because i don't think they tell you."

Oh my, that feedback would be critical to me. I hate doing advertising or running promotions where you get no feedback. No way of telling if it works or not.

Anyone who orders gets the gift certificate whether or not they knew the promotion was going on or not. It's not like they have to follow some special link to get the gift certificate. Purchasing is all they have to do.

Assuming you are sending them to your Artist Website, then you can use Google Analytics to track their point of entry. Whether you sent out an email campaign or wrote a blog or what have you, you should be tracking how your buyers find you.

I shared it last year and I did have a little bump in sales. I will again this time.

Sharon, there could be a lot of reasons you didn't get the email. This looks an awful lot like spam and a lot of carriers are chit-canning anything that even slightly looks like spam.

Yahoo mail about a year ago stated an aggressive anti spam program. They did it primarily because Comcast came right out declared war on spam and identified several email programs as allowing spam. Yahoo was one of them along with several of the smaller email services. AOL had also been identified by Comcast.

If you have AOL, Comcast or Yahoo, that may be the problem right there.

Thank you Mark!

Question, if a buyer enters the AW through a direct link to a specific image, is GA going to pick that up and where are they going to trace it back to?

Floyd - Google Analytics tracks any access to your site, whatever page they land on. It's not 100% cut and dried but if they followed a specific link in from another site or a search engine, you see that as the source.

There are a couple of threads where this has been discussed in some depth. Any thread where you see Alexis chimed in, read those. ;-)

Floyd,

I just Googled Naked Wines Fineartamerica. I thought of putting the URL on my Twitter feed, but then
I'd confuse the hell out of things and only be advertising everyone else. Kiss my following good bye.

ofw, did not do it.

i never even got the mail that tells us that we're doing it again. mostly i don't feel like advertising another company that i never really heard of. i think though if anyone took advantage, they did it because they were buying the print anyway.

One artist here has used the Nakedwine promo on his stuff for the last year. He has great sales because of it. Just him, not all of FAA.

I forget who. He has one ad up on Linkedin and it gets responses.

I do not know what ads he runs if any elsewhere.

What would be interesting is if Sean had a program for promos where
individuals could advertise themselves and their art while selecting
the promo individually. Instead of everyone being on board. Then the
advertisers could also say yes or no to an artist in the process.

That would get really interesting.

I'm beginning to believe that I'm the only one that rec'd the email, and I live in one of the states they don't ship to.

Sharon, even if you did not receive the email, go back to my thread, copy the link I posted in the header, and you can use it to promote the event. ;)

I would think last year's promo must have brought in some buyers, or why would Sean do it again?

"What would be interesting is if Sean had a program for promos where

I have no problem what this. But the fact is no on needs Sean to run these kinds of promotions. You can do them yourself. NakedWine and a thousand others out there will work a promotion with you.

They may cost you a little money but you offer it in such a way that you can absorb the cost or adjust your markup.

That is what managing a business is all about, figuring out the day to day stuff and figuring out how to advertise and promote to become successful.

I laid out a promotion I would be willing to work with anyone on FAA (with Sean's approval of course) that wanted to, where your buyers would get a free print with every purchase. I have thousands of 9 x 12 or 11 x 14 that have a release price of $35 or higher in a few cases. The come form one or top publishing house in the world, Somerset Fine Art by some of the best selling artist in the country today. Martin Grelle, Larry Dyke, Tom du Bois, Bruce Green, Nancy Glazier.

I tried, and got no sales. However naked wine uses this promotion elsewhere as well. I ordered something last year from some company (forgot what I ordered and where I ordered it from) and got one of these coupons. I don't ever remember it being mentioned when I ordered it. It looks like Sean is make something special out of something that is really isn't that special. Btw we never used it - we don't drink.

Yeah got ours from newegg six months ago. The wine is decent.

Ed,

Interesting suggestion to use the blogs. I am still figuring out at what pace I want to post to my Tumblr account. I have
next to no followers on Tumblr so posting there is futile.

Still working it all out.
