For my own sake, I'm asking, " Even though, you know it could be better, have you ever felt compelled to determine:..When,How,Why or IF it's time to settle?"
When is enough enough?

When that feeling comes my way I shut everything down for the day.
I come back generally for a few weeks very strong again.
I do not try to work through it. I enjoy the rest of my day.

I sometimes have to say "Enough's enough" when it comes to certai artwork. Currently, I'm finding myself coming to this feeling once again in regards to a piece I'm currently working on. I keep telling myself all the different ways I can do touch ups, additions but in the end if i keep going on and on, I may never get it posted. Sometimes he most valuable step in creation is knowing when to take a deep breath and decide the piece is acceptable as it is.

Roger,
please decide if enough is enough is the topic or settling....two very different subjects to me.
I don't settle, but I do know when enough is enough.

I say, "enough is enough" every morning while trying to tame my hair.
But that's probably not what you meant.
Where an completing a piece of artwork, I sometimes struggle with where to stop. I have ruined a piece by overworking it. It's not about "settling" so much as accepting minor flaws that only I can see. I recently had someone point to one such "flaw" in a work-in-progress, saying, "I like this part the best."

"When is enough enough?"
It's when you are willing to "settle" for "whatever" not going on any longer ;)

Right now, I'm dealing with this question When is enough enough.
Upon receiving the bound version, of "Feral Coots",it became apparent that certain of the 92 plates/files definitely need tweaking, some should be tweaked, and almost all others could be tweaked..
That would take a mighty long time.
So when can one confidently say , "Enough's enough" and settle by hitting the "Submit" button?
Ahhhhhh, now I understand. What do you want Roger, hit the submit button, then later wish you would have taken the time to tweak? If only a few need to be tweaked, I would. Then the others re-evaluate, would you be the only one to see they should have been.
If you are publishing and with anticipation of people buying your book, you want to strive for the best. My thoughts anyway.

"92 plates/files definitely need tweaking, some should be tweaked, and almost all others could be tweaked."
Does the process of adding them to the book need "tweaking"...or does the work itself need tweaking in order for the book to look as good as you would like??
If the work itself is the case...Then maybe without realizing it, you already said "enough is enough" during the process of creating them....my friend. ;)

Lawrence,
You're right, creation is complete and all the rest is fluffing.
Maybe I should put an add on Craigslist.

Lawrence,
You left out the beginning of this phrase ........."that certain of the 92 plates/files definitely need tweaking,........."

"So when can one confidently say , "Enough's enough" and settle by hitting the "Submit" button? '
Roger, that is why they have editors, as in real, live editors.
I think you are too close to it maybe.

Isn't there some one in FAA that has published several books? Maybe they can offer some suggestions.

Ive published about a dozen books. My advice to Roger still stands.
Use the software that the book publisher provides.
Sorry, Roger, I know that isn't what you wanted to hear
8 Years Ago
ah "certain"...
sorry, my bad ;) I took it as "for certain".
re: "He[p wanted"
for the longest time I wanted to make a thread like that about all the "social media" marketing stuff...then I saw you posted a thread (some weeks ago) asking for it and got no offers! lol
Hang in there, Roger...if there's no rush for the book...then take your time and tweak. You'll feel better for it in the end. ;)

It is what it is. You either figure out how to make the tool work for you or you find another tool.

Marlene,
This is the file for page 68 and 69 in the book
I don't believe this could have been done, without having the 2 page layout created beforehand.
As it stands now, the image in the bound book is fine, but the ampersand and the black print are sinking into the center crease.
I could live with it, But I don't want to......I now don't even like the looks of that symbol...So I have to go back and tweak.
Roger,
IF you used the software, you would see that you absolutely can take one image and divide it up between two pages.
You are holding your ground so hard on this issue that there really is nothing left to add from me.
There IS a reason why PODs for books have their own software.

Marlene,
Of course I know how to make a 2 page spread on Blurb..That's how I did it.
But if I want to change the font ,or spread the image, I have to go back in My files to change it.
If you've made a 2 page spread,..How did you deal with the crease?.
By the way here is the original ink cartoon, before I did any tweaking

Marlene,
From Blub Support
As newcomers are not scrolling to read previous replies I'm going to repost what I said earlier. I'll then lock this thread to keep it from getting too long and keep the most relevant info at the top.
We've heard your requests for a lay-flat binding option loud and clear. That said, we don't have plans to offer lay-flat binding any time this year and I don't expect that decision to change throughout 2015.
And by the way, I have only 14 out of the 92 plates that are now 7 two page spread , so I can live with standard binding
This is another. 1 of the 2 two page spreads that I KNEW would have to be tweaked, but how much I didn't know until. I got the book
It seems I have to spread the image a 1/4", making a rather fat center coot..

I recently said enough is enough to being too busy. I cut down on some things. We all need a break every now and then. Working 4 jobs 14-16 hour days 6-7 days a week gets old. I'm counting the days to vacation in July.

LOL Robert, which is what everyday? O:
Not quite, ... only on those rare occasions when the forum is faced with the quandaries of identity trustworthiness and symbolic knitting, ... and perhaps only when we breach the joke barrier to launch into a serious discussion of underlying core issues.
But enough !
Roger, I don't know if this will help of even if it applies, but I rediscovered this quote the other day:
"I will not change an error if it feels right, for the error is more human than perfection." David Smith - Metal Scuptor
And one more by "Unknown" - "Perfection is a flawed concept."
O.K. Enough is enough with the quotes already! :-)

Weigh the costs vs. the benefits.
Not necessarily easy if you take into account the intangibles, which sometimes aren't easily measurable.
When the costs start outweighing the benefits... and there's no reason to believe that's likely to change... time to cut the losses & move on.

Good question. If "enough" is from exhaustion, settling may be by default since we have to land somewhere. But then we dust ourselves off again and have another go.
p.s. Oh no. Infants can be befuddled :)
p.s.s. @David, but next week you might have salmon again :D

Goodness, I definitely felt like enough is enough today. I would really like to quit due to every painting feeling like a failure, but I'm compelled to paint...but enough is enough for today.
Roger, my approach to answer that question would be to ask "Does it really matter"? if the answer is yes, then it's not enough, if the answer is no, then enough is enough.

@Lady Isabella F A Shores:
"Yes!"
Me thinks there are some more forum changes coming. ;-)
