Pain

Lately I've had to push myself to produce. For the best part it's fun and relaxing to get lost in a creation but most can agree it's hard to get out of a "block". What do you do to overcome and persevere?

I've just (for the first time) realized the term "painting" begins with "PAIN". It shouldn't be so! lol

However, what is working for me right now is that I have taken some of the older works out of the corner and reworked them. Getting me back in the "go". Hopefully this will lead to a few brand new ones soon!

I switch media. Lately I've been in a long block, so it's been a lot of digital work.

The thing that keeps me motivated is sales...which I haven't had on FAA in nearly six months!

Window shopping.
When bored I will hit a quaint little country town (with my camera in hand ) & do some window shopping. Hopefully a little outdoor dining ( although a bakery will do : ) )
& some antique/Junque shopping for props to paint.

Come home feeling rejuvenated.

Focus on your blessings....their is no pain unless you choose it...I have failed and so have so many for so many times but that merely eliminates the occasions when what you do was not right for other peoples moments. When they share then the situation is perfect... if they do not share it is still perfect but you do not get feedback to confirm that. just believe it is all perfect ...the pain goes away. Get inside your heart with that feel it...Love and light keith

I do something else.... walk away for a bit.. Then I come back with all kinds of ideas..

I agree with Reb. Dry spells come and go. I let them happen and focus on other pursuits until the muse returns, and it always does. :)

I ignore FAA, Forum, keep to myself, do serious electronic damage to my image photos, to create release statements for myself. It works. (leaving forum, now!)........

Wayne-"I've just (for the first time) realized the term "painting" begins with "PAIN"."

Yes, that's true Wayne, but the word also ends with "TING"!

I don't know what that means but just thought I'd mention it. LOL

I am pushing through it, I kinda get it bad this time of year. So many other things (TINGS, @Bill,...lol) to do with the change of seasons.

I have one older painting completely reworked and will post up when photographed, it turned out well.

And on a good note I was working on a new painting today that was on the back burner. Got a couple more oldies I'm going to dig out and patch up ...........or massacre.

Self discipline is the word that should have "(pain)" in it somewhere. Self-DisciPAIN maybe,..lol

Edit for speeling.....

Pain and weariness have taken over - I hardly even take a photo now and then - and I haven't created a digital abstract since February,

My best ideas come to me on long car rides I take all by myself. In art school I was recommended to make a file folder and put into it images which inspired me. I browse them when I need that extra push to get me going again.

I used to draw a lot paint do arts and craft project my hands staring hurting than go numb.
I started doing a lot on the computer but even long periods of time drawing small details with the mouse started hurting
I understand and hate feeling pain doing something I love doing.
I stop and go watch a movie or listen to music and come back.
I tend to have a few unfinished projects this way I come back and l lose the image I had in my head or just get bored and start something else
I have a short attention span sometimes art helps me keep focused sometimes.
Light a yummy smelling candle put on music open your mind and relax your body
; If that doesn't work down a bottle of wine I what what id create drunk lol

an interesting topic anyone have anything they made drunk or after smoking alittle wacky tobacco

you either stop, or try something new and switch gears. i did a bunch of photos for a long time. then got into colorization. i'm now bored of that, and will switch back with new skills. i'll just keep repeating that pattern.

Drew, that's one of my favorites, glad you like it too. Thanks everyone else for your thoughts.

I could post up a painting I reworked, but is it possible to attach a photo from my desktop to here?

I schedule over and over again week in and week out. I do not make lists. I block off days for different things.
I get one two or three things done every day. I usually am asleep by 11 pm, but if I have a project
I might turn in after midnight.

When I have had enough, that is it, I take a brake. I set it all aside and take most of a day off. I come back
a day later refreshed. I work as well as I ever have.

My creativity comes and goes. It is always in the background. When to work comes and goes as well.

I put in over 60% of my time on marketing and other projects. Some months I get a couple of works done. This month
coming up probably no new work. I have other things I need to do. As I settle into this pattern I love the work
all the more when I can get to it. I will possibly find my self by the end of May creating something. I have three ideas
on the back burner.

When I get stalled on a painting, I tell myself "You started it, now finish it." When it's finished, I walk away for a while and find something more rewarding to do, like...well, just about anything.

I'm not good at being creative on demand,...so I too,...walk away from it,...the yearning always returns quickly,...sometimes catching me disarmed (without my camera)

Many time my best images come at totally unexpected times or have nothing to do with what I originally set out to do.

I do much experimenting with results that were once mistakes,...newly applying them purposely.

@Marty, yes "art on demand" can sure take a lot of the fun out of it. Sometimes I can over come it, other times not.

As long as I don't get away from it for too long I'm right back at it. On the other hand I have been known to drop it for years.
