Art Silent Disablities And Speaking Out.

Probley wondeting what this post is really about.
Silent disablities. I see a few people share on this boards different disablities but sometimes disablities are not always out ..They go unnoticed inless someone says they have disability or I hate using the term disorder.
You may not see cronic pain , anixity, or something that goes unnoticed inless someone tells you..
Sometimes a person may not share out of fear of being treated different or spoken to like you cant understand them.
Art is an outlet to share yourself your talents .
I have heard some of the ignorant things people may say wirh they dont understand that just because you may have a disablity it doesnt mean you want to be spoken to like you cant understand whats being said. People fear telling people they may have one of these silent disablities . I call them silent because you may not even notice inless someone tells you or you take the time tp relize a person is not stupid or doesnt want to look at you because the are being rude.
April is Autium awareness month and often goes unnoticed when you are on a higher spectrum.
People need to be educated teachers and parents especially.
Next time someone seems socially awkward doesnt seem what people think is normal dont stare or god forbid ask whats wrong with you.
People om the spectrum often have anixity. Depression . Social anxiety . Issues with sences touching feeling certain textures loud sounda and bright lights.
Education is a good answer Autium is not a promlem if people are willing to learn.
Art is therapeutic.

Thank you for sharing this post Jennifer, it is an important issue. Art is therapeutic and is used a lot as part of treatment for Autism and sometimes individuals show great artistic talent and discover a creative outlet. Art therapy can also improve the ability to imagine and think symbolically and to recognise and respond to facial expressions (which of course is a big part of the problems individuals with Autism and Asperger's Syndrome have in relating to people).

Thank you Dorothy.
I have worked with people on the spectrum and mental and physical challenges.
maybe I can relate to them I have dyslexia anxiety some Sensoryż issues .I can be around people and be touched My cpr class was kind of hard when people get behind you and touch and grab. just very sensitive to loud sounds and scare very easy my sons like sorry I scared you again mom I'm ninja mom lol
My oldest son has Asperger's Syndrome .
The worst question has always been what's wrong with him. I have been asked that. Or people start talking really slow to you.
I read things a few times before I can not see things a little jumbled, I read and tested in honors reading and writing in collage but takes me a minute or 2 longer.
I was asked in a training class . what can we do to make you learn faster and saying I had dyslexia made it worse. the instructor started reading to me. I WAS LIKE I CAN READ.
I believe I like helping people with challenges they are non judging and I feel blessed to help them.
I don't let anything hold me back or use anything as an excuse.

The R word hurts.' sadly I have seen and heard the word used at work. I hate it.
my son came home crying from school when he was in high school a teacher called him the r word . A lady working at the library called him that when he was reading and didn't answer him.
people don't thing before they use this word' . I know its been used for decades but get with the times and stop using it so freely

There is nothing 'wrong' it is just different that's all. The teacher should know better but they are human too and humans do and say gormless things without thinking.

Do Americans use the word 'gormless'? I keep getting unstuck using English words that my American chums have to go away and look up. It basically means foolish LOL

gormless lacking in vitality or intelligence; stupid, dull, or clumsy.
haven't heard it used in the states . I have friends from different parts of the world.
I was learning German and Italian
my grandmas Sicilian and I can remember the bad words lol

Ah, the first Italian words my neighbour taught me were the bad ones - very useful for dealing with builders!

High functioning spectrum disorder people are stuck. They have very few friends because of their lack of emotional and physical response. But that doesnt mean they dont love or want to be loved. Its a very hard place to live in.

Back from lunch. It didn't occur to me you would Jennifer LOL. I know that adults with Asperger's (in particular) benefit greatly from training to help them develop coping strategies to compensate for lack of social skills.

Im working on finding a program for my son. He wants to work i wont put him in a home like i worked at. But he has goals to live on his own. Some of the programs cost alot. Been checking into goodwill training programs some programs either cost money or hes too old for. They are for ypung adults 18to 21 he can do anything he sets his mind to. Just needs help in the right direction. He does draw. He stopped for abit when someone told him his drawings where stupid. I told him ignpre the haters. Hes been writting a book since he was in high school. . Im glad he trusts me to share with me. Very creative. Hes been reading since he was 18 months old. I would read to him he started reading back to me.
