Lightroom Cc

I'm watching a preview of Lightroom CC on CreativeLive and downloading it. Lots of great new features - especially not having to go to Photoshop for things like HDR and Pano. Face detection for your photos and brush in/brush out effects like in On1 Perfect Effects.

Lightroom just keeps getting better.

been trying to find the download... CC is not showing it yet under apps and I have not found it online

They might be having problems. Just update via the Creative Cloud manager.

I was just able to download it. Seems they had a problem this morning.

Ed,

Thanks for the heads up I rely only on PS, but am checking for all updates on CC.

got it... had to logout and log back in under my account settings

Hmm... I subscribe to CC for Photoshop. Perhaps it's time to use the LR version as well.

Ed,

Finally the PS CC servers are working very fast.

I updated a few things. I have not even installed my LR. I dont need.

No notifications. Interesting. But perfectly good.

Art Prints

I tested out the new HDR featuring using the above image. Shot with three images - normal, +1 stop and -1 stop handheld using a FujiFilm x100t. Easy to use. You end with something like 10 stops to play with using the regular old exposure slider.

All the way from all black to all white. Snazzy!

I have LR 5.7 if i buy the subscription one and I don't want to pay after the first year can I go back to 5.7?I really like the file management with LR the map feature and such and there is a lot of fine tuning you can do now but the hdr and pano are very tempting

Dave Bowman

You could achieve the same by converting the files to 32bit in PS then saving back to LR Edward. Nice that this is now all contained within LS now though.

David Bishop,

The subscription should cost you $10/month.

That is $120/year.

Or $1200/decade.

If you bought the package in pieces or needed upgrades occasionally in a decade
the costs would be about the same or more.

If you own LR5, David, you have a disc, or at least the files uploaded to your computer. You can use the subscription version and still go back to the disc version. Pretty sure I've heard you could theoretically use them both at the same time.

Christi Kraft

Right now, the last version of Photoshop available on disc is $600. In five years, it's all worked out in the wash, and you've had the chance to use the most updated version of PS for those 5 years. (I recently went through this debate with myself. The subscription won.)

Edward Fielding

Dave, I could also bring one file into On1 Perfect Effects and hit the HDR filter.

The new LR CC also stitches panos. Did I mention the upgrade is part of your subscription? Unlike On1 who pester me every six months to upgrade to the latest version for $50 - $100.

I can't even get to the download site. It's getting hammered. I wanted to see the upgrade price. I'm still not sure I want to go the subscription route.

EDIT: I just got to it. $79 to upgrade which is the same as going from v4 to v5. But you don't get any mobile features. Still undecided.

Edward Fielding

==== update - yes there is a upgrade price of $79 which is close to buying the program new at a student rate =====

There is no upgrade price for CC. CC is subscription. $10 a month for both LR and PS. You can take it off on you taxes as a business expense.

Chuck - ahh I see. I didn't know. Eventually you'll move to subscription anyway me thinks. I'd just wait until you cave in.

Jim Hughes

I searched the Adobe site for about 15 minutes and could not find anything about an upgrade. Gave up. A total online marketing fail.

I'll just wait until it's on Amazon.

Chuck De La Rosa

Jim, try this: https://www.adobe.com/cart.html?marketSegment=COM&#

Edward, I suspect I will eventually. I just don't use PS all that much as it is. LR does pretty much everything I could want. The subscription comes with the mobile apps, which I could see a use for. That may be the tipping point.

Man, I was about to get the full CC for everything, and was actually holding off finishing something for work til I had a copy of Illustrator. How does the download work, does it come all at once in one massive file, or do I chose which I'm downloading in what order, and can come back for Lightroom tomorrow or Thursday?

Christi Kraft

You can pick and choose what you install at what time, Joshua. I started out by downloading PS, and then waited on LR, but it's still an option available to me.

Steven Ralser

I'm trying to decide which way to go. The only thing I've used PS for in the last couple of years is merging panos. I my just go the upgrade route, and save myself a few dollars - it's still a tax deducation whichever way i go.

Christi Kraft

The kicker for me was the fact that LR 5.7 didn't play well with PS CS5. There are times I am working on something in Lightroom and want to pop it over to PS and back. That wasn't happening, and I didn't feel like shelling out a solid $600 for the PS upgrade. Subscription it is. LOL You're absolutely right, Steven--tax deduction either way, but this way happened to be more budget-friendly in the interim.
