Fair Judge??

Hi everybody!
I want to raise a question about what happened to me and maybe someone can give me a logical answer.
Recently I participated in a contest which I led from the start to the end, in the last hours the guy in the second place got another vote, so the situation was perfectly equal 9 to 9. The contest ends and wow! I'm the winner ... of the second place! :)) Can anyone enlighten me how this algorithm works. Because if there's some kind of bug I can understand, but if there was "fair" human decision, I can only blame my origin, as I'm Romanian while the other guy was from UK (by the way, I have NOTHING with him, I congratulate him for being voted by 9 people, good for him). You may call me paranoid, but there's a wide spread misconception and I may call HATRED against Romanians. This happens because of the Western European media indoctrination. Anyway, as I said, I'd prefer a logical answer as I'm sure there's one :)
Respectfully ... from a "3rd world country",
Marian Voicu

Donīt take contests on FAA seriously: )

Me neither, Martin, but this is a matter of principal. I see your point and I agree :)

I'm not sure how anyone determines how a tie is set one above the other - but I seriously doubt if anyone looks at where a person is from, their gender or anything else. The question goes to the administrator of the contest.

Administrator who answered: "I have no influence on the contest the votes are done by members! "

I rest my case :))

Yep, it is most likely algorhytm thing.
But on the other hand nationality might affect buyers decision.

I am sorry that this happened, Marian. As a contest administrator myself, I can say that the final ranking is beyond our control. This would be a question for Abbie or tech support. We all would benefit from knowing the answer to this so that we can better understand the process of how the FAA system handles a tie. I can assure you, Marian, that the location of the artist has nothing to do with it.

:)) Really, Martin? So if an artist from ... let's say Bulgaria creates something beautiful, he's just doomed because he's Bulgarian and buyers raise their eyebrows? Is that what you're saying? I thought art has no boundaries related to nationalities, skin color, religion or anything else. I invite you to do a short search on the web and see how many talented artist come from Eastern Europe, this part of the world who is supposed to be ...inferior.

Ok, Rahdne, I believe you and thank your for the comment!

I think you are reading way too much into a contest in which 9 votes determines a winner.

i'm guessing its based on vote order. if he was the last one that got the vote then he's on top? it really doesn't matter.

No matter how it's labeled, it's a tie.

Yes, Mike, that was the case, he was the last one that got the vote. So I think this is the only logic. Ok, I was curious, but to be honest, outraged too :)
It makes sense what you say. Thanks, Mike!

As an admin of contests and groups, if the winners get a showcase on the group home page, I determine who gets the tie breaker. I find it's kinda lazy for an admin to say he has no role in it when if they wanted to, they could. But I believe FAA has been known to switch first and second out every now and then when there is a tie. The system isn't smart enough to truly recognize the tie. But there is no racism involved.

No reason to be outraged by what is a pretty meaningless contest in the long run.

No, Jim, check the final result, there's not a tie. At least not according to FAA. My 9 is not the same with his 9 :))
Anyway, I will close this subject, cause Mike gave the most logical answer :)
Thank you all, guys!

Joseph, with all due respect, racism is NOT involved here for the simple fact that Romanians are Caucasians, exactly the same as the Admin who's from Austria.

Depends on the reason you entered the contest to begin with. If you entered to help with marketing that is one thing. If you entered for some type of recognition FAA contest are not for that.

Plenty of real competitions all over the world that you can enter to find out if your work is good. Ones that judge on the best image instead of family and friends votes.
