Message To (some) Administrators About Missing Votes

Dear Administrators,

You know when you take part in a contest and then receive an e-mail of a contest winner message - and when you check out that contest leader winners page you see that you have not voted, - because some administrator did not sent out a ' vote now' messages, which is most annoying.
I just want to add that I always vote for other artists, and they too will miss out by not getting my vote.

It seems some administrators do not realise that there are FAA members who are members of many, many groups who take part in multi contests.
And for such members is simply not possible to keep track of the various and multi voting dates that may or may not have posted with the start of a contest.

I would suggest that all Administrators - come up with a simple and the same for all groups 'Notification Message Formula to Vote',
so that ' voters' and artists can vote in time and do not miss out time and time again - because there is not a simple voting
notification system in place.

Cheerio, Hartmut :-)

My suggestion, if you're entering that many contests, is to setup some sort of internal tickler file/reminder of your own using an Excel spreadsheet of some sorts, listing all of the start dates, etc.

I host contests here and there and TRY to remember to send notifications although there are times that I am extremely busy and forget. I hardly ever get notifications about contest voting. I just try to check them as much as I can remember.

Google Calendar is a friend to me

Create a private calendar there
add any dates you want to remember and set an alert by text or email

Group and contest admins are in a tough pickle. Some members complain about any e-mail they get. Others complain when they don't get any.

I hate all the "vote now" emails..... Just go to your "behind the scenes" page and check the contests you entered

That's true, Joseph. I'm annoyed at a lot of emails, but by the same token, I also vote for other people in contests, so I would rather get the alert from the administrator.

That said, I'm sure it's a lot of work. I've considered hosting contests, but since I still have a day job, I'm not sure I could pay as much attention to it as I should.

"Group and contest admins are in a tough pickle. Some members complain about any e-mail they get. Others complain when they don't get any.'

No kidding Joseph, damned if you do and damned if you don't.

I think there is something in the atmosphere these days or something.

It seems like too many people all of sudden are waking up and saying to themselves, "Oh boy, what a wonderful day! I think I will log on and find something about FAA to bitch about"!

Floyd,
I disagree that it is 'bitching' when certain complicated, or difficult issue in FAA arise, or have been there forever, and a member (in this case I)
suggests that an easier way would be more useful than the present disordered one - for all voters and artists.

Rose,
Contests , or vote reminders, do not stay in the 'behind the scene' page, at least as far as I can see.
And even if so, it would still be a chore to scroll and find the ever changing new and old contests,
when an 'automatic' vote reminder would be so much easier.

Greg and Lady Isabella,
I don't think artists or voters should have to set up a calendar - file reminder system for voting, as that would be difficult with all the various contests and dates
which pop up almost everyday.
It would be Much Simpler if the Administrators and FAA together could work out a Simple Automatic ' Vote Now Reminder System' that would be linked to any voting
date contests administrators have set.

What kind of system do you use to pay your bills and meet deadlines/appointments?

Just a friendly suggestion but, the easy fix is to possibly limit the amount of contests entered and use a sticky note attached to the computer monitor where it's visible to remind of voting dates. I use 'em all the time. :)

Hi Greg,

Thanks for the tips, but Bills and Deadline/Appointments do not arise on a daily/weekly basis as Contests and Voting do.

Also, I don't think limiting my contests, because there is a difficult FAA/Administrators Voting System in place, is Not a Solution.
If I use a sticky note for that, then I would not see my monitor anymore, besides - it is Not about me - it is about making
an unruly voting system easier for All.

Oh, as to the like/don't like e-mails issue from FAA, you have the option to decide what e-mails you want or don't want from FAA. :-)

Oh, don't get me wrong, I agree with you Hartmut but, until then, google calendar is my friend.

Hi Lady Isabella,

If Google is your 'Friend' - you need some serious help, ha ha ha ! ...only JOKING :-) :-) :-)

But seriously serious, your suggestion of a calendar set-up is fine, but only if you do a few contests,
which as you know keep on coming almost every day.
And to get to a contest ' voting state' should not involve more than a few clicks.

Cheerio, Hartmut :-)

Harmut, you could also check when you are on your Profile Page. Click "Contests' at the top (where Images, Galleries, etc. is) . Then click to view the contests you are participating in.
There you will see a column 'Voting In Progress' with the relevant contests and details.

Thank you Margaret for your hints.

However, my point is to make the voting process, and the Notification Process from the Administrators, simpler and easier,
so that you, all members and I don't have to jumps through all sorts of 'linking' hoops to get to the voting page,
or missing voting altogether.

Cheerio, Hartmut :-)

"...If I use a sticky note for that, then I would not see my monitor anymore..."

Do you seriously think they're placed on the monitor screen? I'll take it that you were offering up some humor. :) Have a good day, Hartmut.

I wish i could opt out of group mod emails. I quit entering contests
Its up to you to check when voting starts. Just click the "conteses" tabs under communities and see which contests are in the voting phase. If contests are that important to you, do your own checking, dont expect the admin to do it for you.

Hi Melany,

I'm sure there is some option for you to opt out of getting group mod emails.
Check with 'Support FAA', 'Frequently Asked Questions' or their 'Help' links.

Obviously you have not read some of my answers, where I state that - it is not about Me - but simply to
encourage a simpler email/message reminder system on how members can vote in contests.

I also said that when artists take part in the many (almost daily) contests, then it is not simply a matter of clicking
on (time consuming) 'Community' or 'Activity' etc. links to keep track and to remember the multi ' when to vote dates' and rules.

Quit entering contests is not the answer, fixing the problem / annoyance - why you did leave contests is .

And I Do expect FAA & Group Administrators to find an easier way to get a timely vote reminder message
to their members - especially when they expect artists to take part and urge group members to vote
in their contests.

Cheerio, Hartmut :-)

Hi Greg ,

Greg: Do you seriously think they're placed on the monitor screen?

Seriously Greg, I did not think, or expect anyone to take my 'monitor sticking notes' seriously.
I merely used it as a (humorous ) point, to point out that sticking notes (wherever) about the
multi contests is pointless - when one is a member of many groups or takes part in many
contest voting... :-)

Cheerio, Hartmut :-)

Hartmut,

Did you read my original response to your sticky note? Here it is again so as to clarify:

"I'll take it that you were offering up some humor... :) "

I don't think they "expect" anything, as the contests are not mandatory. Have a good day, Hartmut.
