Need Advice...new To Fine Art Prints From Watercolor Designs

Hello everyone,

I am a watercolor artist who is looking to get into the business of selling fine art prints of my work. Someone recommended my using Fine Art America. Would any other watercolor artists mind giving me insights into why they chose using Fine Art America to create and sell their prints? I'm in the process of comparing options. Ideally I would want the print on a paper similar to watercolor paper that has a "tooth" to it, but I am not sure if this is an option with FAA. Also, I'm wondering if FAA's markup makes it worth the fact that the artist does not have to personally handle the selling and packaging and shipping of items. I'll attach an example of my work. Thanks for your insights. --Mallory

i can't speak for watercolorists, but you'll need to watch your crops and presentation. they have strict rules about stuff like that. otherwise the scan you have is nice and sharp.

Hi Mallory,
I don't have all the answers, but you can get a sample kit of all the papers FAA offers for printing for $5.00. Check here:

Hi Mallory, I paint in watercolor, it is not up to the artist to choose the type of paper but the buyers. I find scanning is the best way for my watercolors, it is worth it if your works sell.

"Ideally I would want the print on a paper similar to watercolor paper that has a "tooth" to it, but I am not sure if this is an option with FAA."

Are you more interested in how the buyer wants to buy it or how you want the buyer to buy it? Mostly the goal is to sell prints. The decision on what medium they are printed on is usually left up to the buyer.

If some one wanted one of you images on canvas, would you not want them to have it? If they wanted a metal plate or an acrylic plate or some other medium other then water color paper, would that not be okay with you?

Keep in mind, you are selling prints here not actually fine art as in originals. These are fine art reproductions. Mostly people will have their own idea what they want to hang on their wall.
