Aw Vs Faa Site - Facebook Links

I've noticed that when I post to FB from FAA, the visit count shows up here. When I post from my AW, the visit count shows up there. I've read that it's better to post from the AW because then visitors don't get side-tracked onto others' sites/galleries. But I'm also wondering about "count" in terms of search statistics here. What do you do and why?

Considering I am only here since last September I have
put up okay numbers, views, other stats and a few sales.

Stats of any sort without sales are one rung up from worthless.

You have to have stats, views, no matter what, but empty views
and next to no sales mean nothing more than the effort you have
to make anyways.

I go with the AW. Someone also showed us in a recent thread that
FAA and the AW may roll back FB and Twitter and Pinterest counts.
It is not guaranteed that your numbers are completely accurate.

Your sales numbers are completely accurate. It is all that counts.

The bigger reason to go with AW is the product lines along with the prints.
You are closer by far with the AW to the Pixels site.

Nikki Addition:
I go with the automated posting for FB and Twitter. So I automatically
go with the FAA site. I go with the AW for Pinterest. Regardless of some
misgivings on Sean's part I have a lot of faith in future sales on Pinterest.
And I think those sales maybe more product oriented.

For Twitter I really prefer an automated image and link. For FB I dont care at all.
FB is just a token thing with me. I am not on FB for sales. I am on FB for family and friends.

its best to send people to the AW site because it isolates them into just your store. otherwise they may migrate to some other store. i never looked at the count here. i use stat counter for my main page and can catch some views. AW doesn't allow that code for some reason so i'm flying blind there. yet i still try to send from there. unless its a sales announcement. however i if its something that i don't sell here, then i have to send it from there so they can find it.

I try to do all of my image link posting to FB, Twitter, and now Pinterest, from my AW site. Now that the FB auto-post thing is not working on their end, I haven't been able to auto-post anything there since mid-March.

I don't do the automated thing anymore on any social media site. It feels like spam to me, especially back when I was uploading five to ten images a night. I also used Facebook's timed posts on my business page, esp. through Christmas. I could post in the morning, afternoon adn evening... all at the same time!

Like others above me, I use my AW site all the time to post to using my joethephotog.com domain name. I don't want folks sneaking off from my FAA page as it is so easy to do.

I don't go crazy about views. I enjoy seeing the numbers and I really enjoy seeing locations that are near me or where I shoot, but that's about all the stock I put into numbers.

Thanks, all. I don't do the automated thing either - as Joseph says, it feels like spam to me. I've been trying to remember to go the AW route, but then the "counters" got me wondering. Posting either way brings me the same visitor count profile and though many say they never look at that, I really like looking at it on the day(s) immediately following one of my posts to FB. I like seeing a spike in visitors from many different IP's in contrast to the string of New York NY and Beverly Hills CA that I usually see :) And like Joseph, I am always interested in locations that seem to match those of my image.

Amidst all of the NY, Beverly Hills, and all the usual "visits", there were some repeat visits from the Louisville area. Sold two images specific to that location recently, so it does payoff, literally, to keep pushing the posts. I don't see it as spam, and view it as "marketing". I never used FB in the social aspect.

It's spam to me -- just my opinion -- when Facebook automatically posts five links to my page all at the same time when I upload new stuff. I'd prefer to do it on my own timetable, I'm pretty sure most folks aren't clicking on each image that goes out with two minutes of one another. But maybe I'm wrong.

Since the FB auto-post feature no longer works, I guess it's all a moot point for me with them, but I'm still doing it for Twitter. :)

I post from the AW site....I started to do so because I felt that is the best advise...I think views matter...in that to sell anything the work has to be viewed but the actual number count is not really important.

Interesting. I thought the counts were the same for AW and FAA. I thought they were tied together. I rarely ever use my AW site except for outside advertising. Guess I need to start promoting it on social media instead of FAA. Why aren't they tied together? I would think it would help in search engines and FAA search if all the view, likes and favorites/votes were all tied together.

I was using the FAA post because the image automatically showed in the link. When I have tried to post the link from AW to Twitter or FB, all it shows is the link. I don't think most people are going to click on the link for an image if they can't see the image first. So I went back to posting from FAA. I agree with all the above, though. I would rather post from AW if the image would post WITH the link.

I went to my FB/FBartists pages last night. I was in for a small shock that FAA/FB link no longer works.

In the meantime I have begun to use my Tumblr account and it feeds my FB artist account. It looks far more
professional. I will now only continue on that way from Tumblr onto FB.

My Pinterest account as I said is AW. It is meant to be commercial in full. No one would have it any other way.
But Pinterest is not spamming. You follow or you dont.

Twitter? I want the image and the link. I wish we had Twitter Cards. Far less spammy, but far more linked into FAA or
possibly the AW. We really need Twitter Cards.

Jennifer,

When you link the AW to say FB that AW link determines the counter.

Same for the FAA profile.

Remember the AW has merchandise like Pixels, so the link is different again for other reasons as well.

In computer programs pointers are very important. They are meant to be very specific. You would not program
to make an accounting app that blurred the lines between accounts.

@ Carolyn Marshall
Mine shows with an image when I post from my AW. I posted the road in the Palouse (scroll down just a bit) earlier today using the FB share option on the image there.

@ Jennifer White
The visitor counts are linked. It's the # that shows under the "f" that only shows on either the AW or the FAA site. And as others have said, this number is taken from FB and doesn't necessarily say anything about counts at FAA.

@ no one in particular :)
I just thought FB visits were figured into the search somehow here at FAA so I wondered. And yes, I know that it's sales that count the most - but other things do factor in.

Carolyn Marshall

Thank you, Nikolyn. I tried it and it does work now. It just doesn't have the info on it about having an image for sale. For some reason, it wasn't working for me before and just left a link. Could have been FB ISHues at the time.

David Bridburg

Nikolyn and Carolyn,

I wonder if the FB shopping cart being down earlier last week was to switch over
automatic controls from the FAA to the AW so that the merchandise would be included
when potential buyers hit on a link on FB. I dont know yet if this is so.

Dave

Jessica Jenney

Carolyn, it doesn't have the for sale info unless you post the link manually. It will just say that you've uploaded a new image. Which is one reason I prefer to post manually.

Nope, just tried enabling it again. Still a no-go. I'm through messing with it.

"OOPS... SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT

The Facebook Personal Application no longer has permission to access your Facebook account. Please re-enable it, below."

Jessica,
May I ask your help? Exactly which link are we to paste into /onto the shop now button on our fan page? Maybe this is where I am going wrong..... All updates post to the main page, still not to fanpage. I know Abbie said it is most likely FB itself that is the problem but for my own edification I would like to be clear on that link. Thanks!

Well, mine apparently works differently than everyone else's.
I go to my AW and sign in.
I open the image I want to send to my page.
I click the "f" in the upper right.
I wait a few seconds and I get a box at the top that says "On Your Own Timeline" and has a dropdown menu.
I drop the menu down and see options, one of which is "On a page you manage"
Under that is another drop-down which I click. My FB "pages" show up. Now I choose "Nikolyn McDonald Photography".

Now there's a box under that that says in light gray "Say something about this". I type in a description. I could start by saying "This image is for sale" if I wanted to. Usually I just put something interesting and kind of personal about the image.

So I just did one for today. It's the front of a simple but charming adobe home in Tucson. Here's the link to my FB page again so you can see what I got by following these steps. I am NOT a techie nor am I FB literate - Jessica can attest to that :) - so I can't explain why this may not work for someone else.

I will give that a try...

I allways post through FAA because the features ajust better to each moniter an also the images are scaled in proportion with the browser windows dimension. That is key to capture attention when your site pops up.

Nikolyn, thanks but that isn't the answer to my problem since it only posts to the fan page when ideally I want it to automatically post to both pages when uploading or updating.

Nikolyn McDonald

Sorry, Mary Ellen. I never want the same content to go both places, so that didn't occur to me. I think you just have to do it manually as Jessica says. Maybe have it post automatically to your personal page and then do it manually on your fan page if you want it both places.

Tiago Azevedo and everyone else that posts via Pixels or FAA and not your AW. That increases my odds of selling something and diminishes yours. Greatly appreciated.

As for views, the number not showing us means nothing. The numbers themselves mean nothing. I would never make any decision based or rather I can see the number or not. It has nothing to do with causing or creating sales.

Floyd Snyder

I have not even looked at the FB/FAA page on my fan page.

I was never able to get the old version working so I have not been too excited about the new one.

I do have a question for you that have it up and running.

If I go to your FB Fan Page and find the shopping cart and click on an image to buy it, where does it take? FAA? Pixels? Or my AW?

If it does no go to my AW, I will more than likely not be using it.

Fr those asking why the newsletter and saying it's just the same....................

What's new?
1. The app now includes our entire product line, including: canvas prints, framed prints, metal prints, acrylic prints, greeting cards, phone cases, throw pillows, and duvet covers!
2. The app works in multiple currencies, including: US Dollars, Canadian Dollars, British Pounds, Euros, Australian Dollars, and Japanese Yen.
3. The app's search engine allows buyers to search through your images based on keywords, titles, colors, sizes, orientation, galleries, and more!
4. The app is 100% "reponsive" and will display perfectly on iPhones, Android phones, tablets, and more!

FLOYD:
5. The entire checkout process occurs within the Facebook environment. The buyer never leaves Facebook at any time.

Stupid question here, but where do you see view counts or followers counts on the AW? I can only see them on the FAA profile page. I would like to see them on the AW but I suspect they would be the same anyway. It doesn't matter to me which page they see my art on as long as they see it.

@Joseph Hinton, I agree that on FB it seems like spam to have it upload so many. On Twitter, however, the feed goes so quickly that there can be 20-50 tweets between two of my uploads. It is much less spam than many I have seen on Twitter that post continually the same thing over and over. I know that I have gotten all my views from Twitter. Those on FB most likely won't take the time to click through since they can see much of the photo in their news feed. My FB is for me, family and friends. I keep it private so no one is going to really see what I post there anyway. But Twitter has always been for business only. The more people who see it the better, as hopefully I can connect with some abstract art collectors.
