We Are Our Own "toughest" Critics; But....

sometimes, our buyers are not so descerning and cannot see what we see as "flaws"... SO, it pays to keep the photos we may be questioning to delete. I cannot tell you how many times I think I want to delete something because I see things that bother me... but then... "they sell". Same with subject matters. I try to do a wide range of subjects. I just cannot believe the photos of mine that have sold... in most cases, NOT my very best, in my opinion, thus the saying "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". I also see technical flaws with lighting sometimes and even composititional flaws... but thus... they sell. SO... I am keeping everything on my FAA, even if in my mind things are not perfect.

OK. But if you didn't think they'll sell why do you put them on FAA. Seems like an odd statement.

It always seems to be an after thought... and I can always find something that I could do better... I am really tough on myself

Richard, at thirty dollars a year that's really not a bad price for 'image hosting'.

Call those images up in blogs, social media shares and HTML documents on other domains and you really can't go wrong.

Get a 'surprise' sale or two, and it's a bonus.

This works for painting as well. About five years ago I showed 80 paintings at a gallery in a winery. The very last work I selected was the first one sold.

There are some imagines I hated too and wanted to delete Diana, then someone bought it and loved it! Best to just leave it alone.

I still disagree with this thought process of you never know who might buy it....so put it up.

Sure, stuff might sell that you never thought would....but how many willing buyers that were browsing your portfolio left before they got to the one that they would buy because of all the other crap you left in there?

Tend to agree with you somewhat, Thomas, but put the images personally perceived as "crap" at the back of the portfolio/gallery. Not a perfect analogy, but grocery stores put the milk at the back of the store so that you have to go through the store to get the milk.
