The thumbnail looks great. It grabs attention. That means your composition and contrast are working.
Up close it looks simple and juvenile.
You need to focus on the technical aspects of form and variance.

Spend more time working things out. If you want to work in a spontaneous manner, try paint. I think you'd enjoy it.

Drew,

If you Google my last name you come up with my sister's name Eve.

She is all knowing.

I fee like real art and artists are being mocked.

Your art often refers to pop and mass culture. Using written and drawn symbols, a world where light-heartedness rules and where rules are undermined is created. By applying abstraction, you touch various overlapping themes and strategies. Several reoccurring subject matter can be recognised, such as the relation with popular culture and media, working with repetition, provocation and the investigation of the process of expectations.
Your practice provides a useful set of allegorical tools for manoeuvring with a pseudo-minimalist approach in the world of conceptual art: these meticulously planned works resound and resonate with images culled from the fantastical realm of imagination. By applying a poetic and often metaphorical language, you create intense personal moments masterfully created by means of rules and omissions, acceptance and refusal, luring the viewer round and round in circles.
Your works are on the one hand touchingly beautiful, on the other hand painfully attractive. Again and again, you leave us orphaned with a mix of conflicting feelings and thoughts. By using popular themes such as sexuality, family structure and violence, you often create several practically identical works, upon which thoughts that have apparently just been developed are manifested.

Drew,

I would need more sisters and lawyers involved for Blaine to be
a part of my family. But it could be arranged.....well maybe not....mom
is now 75....so we would need some mad scientists as well.....

Why do you ask?

the way i'm seeing these, if your not going to have a real conversation about things, and your going to post another thing that your wife happens to like, that this just another look at me thread or look at my latest. and if we all did that, the forum would be flooded with it.

i suggest right now, for the next 3 years while your working your new job - to simply practice and not worry what we think. let someone else volunteer their thoughts without being asked or without being related to you.

Robert Kernodle

what do you feel when you see it.

Not excited, for sure.

But if it's working for your wife this way, then what Marlene B. said.

What do I see? Now that would be another question. And to answer this one, I would say: I see a very rough drawing of a potentially interesting refined drawing of an anatomically rigorous detailed representation of the human eye, embedded in a machine-produced spirograph,

... finer, more refined lines

... drawn like a mechanical drawing of an engineering project

... skilled drafting

As is, it falls in line with my previous critiques: ... "juvenile", as someone else already described it.

David Bridburg

Blaine,

If you are still anywhere near being on this thread, there is more to make art at all than being somewhat talented
in some design elements.

You need actually commercially viable compositions....proper finish and all.....

That is a nice way of saying the piece is nowhere near being a good near finished work of art.
People are skipping saying this. You keep asking a question for an answer you already know with all
of these threads. You need to complete your work on a professional level.

If you have your answer now or if you dont want that answer, well it is the bottom line, you might
want to heed Mike's advice and stop asking for our opinions.

A spade is a spade.

Dave

Robert Kernodle

... this is just another look at me thread or look at my latest. and if we all did that, the forum would be flooded with it.

Hey, he fits right in, then.

There are MULTIPLE, ... ENTIRE threads inviting people to do this very thing. If he had posted there, then we would be all at ease about it, right?

Rule of the forum: Dump your latest works, ONLY when officially invited by another thread to do so.

Wow guys tell us what you really think lol no holding back or anything o_O

We do have a thread for showing off our lastest work.
But some people need that extra attention .
Sometimes if you ask for too much attention it can blow up in your face.

If you love your work and it makes you happy expressing yourself this way keep going do what makes you feel good dont worry what other people think.
This quote comes to mind with this piece..
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I do not fight tigers, but I can instruct you on how to defend yourself from one --- don't go where tigers prowl.

I have never tended a snake bite, but I feel confident that I could, if I got bitten.

The basic principles of knowledge transfer to different areas, so the argument that if you don't do it, then don't tell me how is not completely sound.

Mike S., this post is about how verbal vestiges of people can come together around the focus of one image with different points of view. It is not a textbook; it is a poem.

Gandalf?
Mike, now thatz funny! When it comes to wizards, maybe of Oz crossed with one of the munchkins dressed up like daisies!

Mike Savad

gandalf fits me well. i'm tall, i have a staff, and i sit in the shadows and let the wee ones do all the actual fighting. i just direct.

or i'm the sauron, but i don't really need to direct tree's and orcs and the like to do my fighting. seems like a lot of work.

who says i don't possess them? just because i don't draw my art, doesn't mean i don't know how to doodle or sketch or make things up. i do more than just this.

I'm sure Mike has those skills, if he just faced up to it.

most of my things start off as a rough sketch, a doodle if you will. but i add things to it like a play book when i make these things. but they are never art in themselves. just blueprints.

A post about Blaine L., thus, magically transforms into a post about Mike S.

To recall Blaine's opening question now, in a slightly altered context, "What do you feel when you see THIS (i.e. what I just noted)?"

We could make it a post about eyes now. I already contributed my eye in another post, so no repetition of that one here. Wait,... I think that I might have another eye thingie somewhere in one of my galleries, ... hold on, while I go check .............

Mike, just how much is the actually your work. How much is it photos, public domain art, scans, Photoshop algorithm, so forth and so on....... What was it You admitted, you don't draw and don't paint in big old capitol letters........i beleave you!
But you certainty manipulate.

Mike Savad

50 things are public domain, probably will be a 100 total or so, maybe more. the rest is mine. there are no photoshop filters that do what i do. the pd work is colorized, so of that at least 50% is mine, because the color looks totally different than the original.

i don't draw as an art. i draw to make something else. when doing stained glass i draw the pattern. when i do digital art i create a sketch that only i understand. but i don't doodle for fun, i don't sell those sketches, but i know how to do them. i also know how to draft if that makes a difference.

Well if we're talking about eyes now, I suppose I'm not too out of line to mention that I will be attending a Spring Salon opening ceremony tonight at Utah's Best Of State 2015 museum, where this scribble will be on display for the next couple of months.

Not trying to brag. Just excited. Yay me!
You all should come if you're not doing anything. Free refreshments and admission!
