Keywording Phrases

Sorry to trouble you but I'm a new contributor just trying to understand the keywording rules on FAA.

I've got some photos taken on the "Isle of Skye", which is also known as the "Island of Skye" or just "Skye".

If I keyword on FAA as :- Isle, Island, of, Skye will searches for Isle of Skye find my images?

Or, should I keyword all the permutations explicitly and separated by commas ie. :- Isle of Skye, Island of Skye, Skye.

Also, what's the situation on singulars and plurals? There seems to be contradictory info on the forum.

Thanks in advance

always add the phrase because if typed, yours will be first. you don't have to do plurals any more. add the singles and the phrases, and your name. use commas, but no spaces (they count as a letter).

I would do all the different variations just to be on the safe side. You have 500 characters to use, so use them if the words are indeed relevant to your search.

Don't use 'of' on its own. It will be ignored

I don't think so Mike. Forgive me if I am wrong, but I understand small words in caps are not ignored. Where 'oh' or 'Oh' will be ignored, but 'OH' will be indexed as an abbreviation to Ohio.

Thanks for the comments. Seems like I need to go and make some adjustments to my Keywords.

Why don't FAA have a FAQ on this topic giving the rules for FAA search results?

Singulars plurals
Hyphens
Apostrophes
Use of a, an, of, in, by, the, etc.
Use of UK, U.K. US, U.S.A., NJ, etc.
Capitalization (appears to be completely stripped)
US versus UK spellings color, colour

Could help both contributors and customers?

Apologies if there is already a FAQ, but I couldn't find it.

Well, I just searched oh and it brought up an image of the Eiffel tower with a keyword phrase "oh paris" so it looks like the search recognises two letters!

Hi JC,

Thanks for the link.

Lots of useful stuff in there, thanks!. But I can't find anything that actually answers the questions I raised on keywords. Maybe I missed something?

Although I did find this comment that perhaps reveals a lot...

"Search Engine Paranoia

People are paying way to much time over worrying the search engine and keep saying how horribly bad it is and offer up 60,000 ways it can be improved. Get of it!! It is what it is. Only Sean knows exactly how it works and he has made it abundantly clear that he is not going tell us. "

Mmm... looks like I've just got to do the best I can, and get on with it.
