Don't sell out! I recently went to a class on scanning and they told me to stop drawing because there is no money in it!

....float down stream.....
...it is not dying.....it is not dying....
Blaine dont hate because I sell out.
I can use the money.
I see you are using different coloured paper and less crayon. Interesting
how you changed that up. She? She is not smiling. Her lips are thick with
will power. Her eye lashes are like cat whiskers. She has trouble parting her
hair. She will carry on.
I can not bring up the sales page. LOL I tried.
Always the contrarian I say, SELL OUT!! And do it often.

Here comes another thread that will last long enough to break a bunch of rules and be shut down by Abbie.. Blaine aren't you tired yet?
Why are you here Blaine? At first I thought you were interested in becoming a professional artist but the last couple weeks all you do is post to stir stuff up and judge others for wanting to be professional artists. How do you know that some one that is making their art to sell isn't doing what they love? Money isn't evil, love of money is. We all need money so why not make money doing something you love? Isn't that the dream? Just because you sell your art does not mean it's compromised. Frankly, it appears to me you are the one with your eyes not quite open.

Ok enough starting threads with no real content just to show your latest offering.
No more non posts, Blaine.
This is the last....
Even silly posts stay open if they have discussion worth...... Use more description in the opening posts to start proper dialogue so people don't just sit there having a go at you but instead have something to discuss

I sould of explained more ! But I edit it please don't shut me down because this needs to be discussed. peoples dreams of being traditional artist are likly headed for a dead end road. I don't mind photography but I couldn't believe that it's taking over the art society !

Wow! I'm trying to think - I have a house full of art hanging on the walls - all of one tradition or another - everything from oil paintings, watercolors, block prints, oriental art, etc. There are a few photographs - one of my mother, one of my other half, one of us and a couple of my godson - but they are small table top things. There are way more people today than ever in the world before - and there are more 'artists' and artist photographers - many continue to create and sell their art - dead end - yes - when the world ends.

Blaine,
Much of the time you are only talking about your dreams and going ons.
Most of us selling art will do okay. Some will do well.
We all know the score.

ok... listen if you want. but i can't see why you would take the advice of a person who teaches scanning. why do you need a scanning class? put paper in. hit scan. its like having a class how to photo copy.

If you are soooo worried about Blaine's threads Dave, why do you POST on them ?
So many backseat moderators, so little art!
If thatz the case, why the backseat moderation Dave?
Blaine has interesting statements that engages members into a little light hearted fun.

Drew,
Why so blunt?
Dave.....not allowed to backseat drive......thanks for reminding me.....LOL

A scanning class? Seriously? There is such a thing? Might want to try a drawing class first. Or elements of design. Heck, even art history at this point.

From what I understand drawing is the foundation of every else. Hand eye brain coordination. Roger can explain it better.
Ed,
Hand to eye is the least of it.
More like translating what you see from the real world down onto the page.
Everyone's hand, hand to eye, and more importantly perceptions are different.
I can draw when I get the rust off me extremely well. My understanding of compositon
which is higher order drawing is extremely good.
I only took a few drawing and studio classes. I do not paint. To paint extremely well
generally you need to master drawing. The rest of the visual arts depend more on drawing skills than
any other single skill that you can train in.

"peoples dreams of being traditional artist are likly headed for a dead end road."
I am sorry Blaine if you yourself have not found success in this area however I am doing pretty good myself.....can't complain.
I wont argue that yes it takes dedication, determination, even a bit of obsession and lastly talent and even more so...... hard work........in order to be successful as a "traditional Artist" (but that's what makes it intriguing to me, I love a good challenge).....being successful at anything requires those things though.
A little less whining and a little more practice may do some good.....................................................................that's what my teacher used to say, at the time I found her to be harsh.....now I appreciate that she was...........just a thought and lesson I'd like to pass on.

ACad 12 here Dave. I had to know how to use the software my drafters used.
Cad 11&12 was command driven.little or no hand drawing abilities needed.
Lotz of drafters out there who's drawings simplify suck

I love to draw, I draw, I do what I please. It's irrelevant what someone says. Nobody has to follow this suggestion.
Be your own master. It's simple.

RE: The Cat
Blaine,
For all those naysayers about your drawing ability
Man!, You CAN DRAW!!!.....The cat's expression is irresistible ,
9 Years Ago
Blaine, kudos, from one who draws, and one who avoids forum, just so proud of you!!!!! Great cat, beautifully observed. Keep going..

I like the sly look your drawing has that the statue lacks.
Now Blaine take note of how Rita tells a story in her painting.
Thanks, awhile back I drew my wife's face and not from a picture with her sitting there when she moved the lines changed. I tell you what that is not easy I have high respect for those that can do it!
Its not just cool cats. The cats are doing something. There is a story being communicated with the artwork.
Im trying to cut and paste one of Ritas painting and it puts mine up! is there an easier was i don't know about to get pics on discussions ?
what he's saying is. creating art is more than being able to draw the pirate or the turtle. that is only step one. step 2 is telling the story. the cat is doing something. in this case the car is eating a fish in front of the other fish and the fish is worried. its not just a drawing of a cat. the stuff that sells, are the things that tell a story through the image itself. it's probably one of the hardest things an artist can do is to be able to tell the story with the image alone. its the difference between a snap shot and a well done image.
the story doesn't have to be deep. usually its just the meaning of the image portrayed correctly by the viewer.

Blaine L.,
From one of your harsher critics lately (namely moi), your cat drawing is a winner. Do more like this. I stand corrected - I see some artistic potential now, for sure.
i know mike its awesome someone should put her paintings in a gallery Ritas a great painter and golden!
When i drew it i wanted to see if i could do it . At the time it was hard and not as entertaining to me as my other art but now i'ts rewarding because i really tried to draw the statue . it doesn't hold a candle to Ritas though!
Thanks Robert

Ive been thinking and now i want to draw more like the cat because its the most rewarding so far and it feels good. in a way in I'm drawing for your respect and that feels really good too! The cat was a challenge and that was fun. Roger that picture on the 10th awesome i love that! golden!

My name is Rita Drolet I was born and raised in Frankfurt-Germany and live now in the beautiful Sunshine State of Florida
I used to have a busy life, could go and do anything I wanted too, but almost like overnight my life changed completely and I became wheelchair bound.
My active life I was used too, came to a complete halt
Now I pick up my passion of painting again, it also keeps my Mind off the fact that I can no longer have the active life I was used to.
Art has always been an important part of my life since I can remember. I am a self-taught, artist and designer and over the Years I have painted different styles, realistic, impressionist, contemporary and abstract
My passion is for the whimsical and unexpected, specializing in animals and designs for a child's room.
I hope my creations bring you joy and an increased appreciation for the medium and subjects of my paintings as much as it does for me
My watercolors are vibrant, bright and rich
I take pride in every piece of my work and take my time to perfect all my pieces.

Great job, Blaine. I see you lifting others up.
You're the 10th!
FYI: I'm a steel detailer by day. I'm assuming you know what that is...
Good luck to you.

Thanks joe! What I've learned from this is do whatever you want! Don't do something because someone wants you too! Mike you were right I think the teachers paintings were not that good but thats no reason to tell everyone to do photography! He's maybe reading this I hope so! I think photography is awesome i might dabble in it myself! All I'm saying is follow your heart and just because someone is a teacher you still have choice to take their advise or not! I am going to get serious about this and I will not give up! Even if i end up with 300 painting in my closet I'm having fun doing it!

you can also remind him about comic strips, or comic books. i'm betting he reads them, and they are all drawings, a form of art, that everyone reads every day.
as long as you don't create huge things, paper stores pretty well, or well enough in that it doesn't take up much space.
