Resolution

I have been in FAA as a free member for a while and recently joined as a (30$) member and uploaded some more artwork. I would appreciate comments from my fellow artists on that much debated resolution topic because I scan my work. I would appreciate any comment. Thanks

Hello Alfred. I checked out this piece and it seems to be of sufficiently high resolution to me (the zoom feature allowed me to view your signature clearly). However, I'll let our fellow artists who know more on the subject chime in. Welcome, again!

Consequently, it's a great piece. And I just started following your work.

put up an avatar btw.

i think it will print because of the sheer size, but its not really that sharp up close.

this has a dirty background, and i see blocks, check the compression.

scanning your work is fine provided the scanner can do a high dpi without interpolating it. otherwise it's just like stretching it in photoshop. you should increase your prices, and add descriptions.

for the most part though, except for a few, i see no issues i'd worry about.

Mike, what DPI would you recommend?

Mike is right, I would add descriptions to your work as well. It will be a time commitment on your part, but it will pay off. Also, be sure to make wise use of keywords.

I just browsed through more of your portfolio. I really enjoy your work, Alfred.

Thank you Rahdne,....this is what I fear...more work. LOL. Just kidding. I will return and review each image. I will look at your portfolio too.

@rahdne - to scan up to? i try for the highest because you never know what will happen to an original. my scanner will go up to 2400dpi full bed. its like a 150mp when its done and too large to use. ideally 1200 is a good number and then from here when you upload you don't want it too large, or you may have to compress it more.

Ah, that's good to know, Mike (and probably for Alfred, too). I've been scanning at 600 DPI. Maybe I'll play around with 1200 DPI going forward. I hadn't gone that high out of fear of the file being too large and thus unwieldy. Thanks for the tip!

Thank you. Good advice.

i mostly do photography, but for colorizing, or the few "paintings" i made, i go as high as i can. when possible i shoot for 10,000px. this way if there are any defects it won't matter that much.

Hi Alfred, I really like your horses and loved 'Road To Church'. I think paintings have sweet, whimsical quality. Have you considered have a show a in a small venue near your home and leaving out business cards with your FF website?

Thank you. I do go to local shows where I sell my original paintings and prints. I probably should invest more in advertising. I recently uploaded more of my images in FAA even I have been in this site for a long time. Thank you for your suggestion.
