Desheron,

You are approaching this visual universe in your own entirely unique way.

And I say, "BRAVO"....Keep it up

Can I ask, how intentional are the surrounding items?

I do see that the "Running Water" piece was photographed at a sink

you really need a better presentation of your work. anyway, this need highlight and shadow, it has no depth.

Sell Art Online
the background shouldn't be outlining the apple, it should looks softer. the giant name and title in the corner is distracting. this has no shadow. if the light is in the upper left corner, then the shadow would be on the other side, not straight underneath. the shadow may be up the wall a little bit, this is what makes things look 3d.

Sell Art Online
i wouldn't put the girl on the fold, i would put her above it. the umbrella on the right is distracting. you need shadows for all these pieces. she has no shadows, shading or depth. its more like a photo shoot for a cartoon character. while you have lights set up, they aren't doing anything. the room would be a little dimmer and those lights should be on. she could use some color.

Sell Art Online
your handwriting could use some work here, it's out of place with the drawing. the light coming onto the glass, and the highlight on the shadow, are in different places. the glass would look darker towards the outer edges and the two centers would have a lighter gradient towards the center. i'm not sure what the background is, but if the white parts are light, they are coming from all directions. the perspective of the glass, doesn't really match the shadow. at this angle i think it would still be pretty much the same shape. the rim of the glass should be highlighted.

The concept is appealing but there is a need to improve your drawing skills.
I read in your bio that you invented this concept...check out the following link....

http://www.toxel.com/inspiration/2013/09/18/3d-drawings-by-alessandro-diddi/

This is just one of many who are exploring n the same arena.

what do you mean by international ?

i never said i invented the 3d concept i got the idea from online, i said 3d optics is the technique that i use.

thank you for the advice mike savad, i really like you pictures especially the detail in the lights and shadows of your landscape.

thank you for the compliment roger swezey and tom druin

Desheron,

I asked you about what was "intentional"..

.In other words..... What was on purpose and what was by chance.?,

Thanks for the link Marlene. I'd never seen this style before. It doesn't take much to impress me when it comes to drawing as I can't draw square. Desheron you are on the right track by being brave enough to ask for critique and comments. As with any craft practice, practice and more practice. Most normal people like myself don't realize the attention to detail that is necessary. It also explains Mike's work by his comments on the location of the shadows.

i do a lot of things with highlight and shadows. i redirect light. my digital work uses that as well. getting it right is rather hard to do. you first need to know where your light source is coming from, if it's diffuse lighting, direct, the shape, angle etc. different objects behave differently in that light. a glass being smooth would have a lot of glare on the rim and edge, but it also refracts light, usually at the base. and it's shadow does totally different things. an apple is slightly dented, so a direct light source will be more mottled looking. the back half would be shadow, and there shadow of the apple would be behind that. shading makes things work, makes them look 3d.

Art Prints
i made this in photoshop. knowing where the light was going to be i directed the shadows out from there. adding highlight and shadow where i thought they should be. i find that many people will not notice the details, but they will know something is off if it isn't there.

Desheron, I was referencing your bio....I see you have changed it :)

my purpose of the 3d look is mostly because of modern video games and TV. as our entertainment evolve with higher definition and new looks each year i try to keep up with it in my art work. so as you see everything in our modern society has moved to new heights so i try to do the same. i got started by watching cartoons like spongebob and games like Mario, i always wanted to imitate what i saw. remember i am only 22 so thing like that is still appealing to me lol.

yea i did lol i don't want people to get the wrong idea

wow, you are a great artist mike, i still have a long way to go, how long you been painting ?

At 22, you're off to a rip-roaring start Desheron -- keep your focus, enjoy your enthusiasm & dreams.

As my dad always said "Just mind your business, kid, and do your work."

It works ;)

Desheron,

Welcome. Like Roger said you have your own way of doing things that is very good.

Those ways of doing things are not comprehensive. To sell on a POD site
you need a proper 2D image. An image going edge to edge usually.

Almost all of the better 2D work is trying to be a 3D representation. An illusion. This goes back
hundreds of years. It does not need to be a fold in a notebook. Or that type of illusion.

Good luck, wishing you many sales. I hope you define your work, your self and have the
capacity to very quickly study and move your work forward. You do have the talent it takes
to make good/great art.

Dave

thanks david, i want to get better before i start to sell, i want people to have great quality work, im going to move back to 2d when i start to sell, but for now i want people to judge my current work, money is no issue for me at this point. knowing that i can donate more time and skill into my work :).

thanks for the complement carmen

Desheron,

Drawing, painting, camera work, digital work.....each has its own tools and
each has its own properties as a medium.

My work moves off into newer constructs, ways of putting things together.

Your drawings are working with their own set of constructs.

Dave
