Welcome To Our Family.

The rules? No rules; just an expectation that we all "do unto others." In other words, if you want others to promote your work, you should do the same for them. Those of us who take a full part in promoting ourselves and others try to do so for a 24 hour period or longer if possible. That includes opening the Big Skip and promoting the images in there too.

GENERAL INFORMATION AND HOW WE DO THINGS HERE:

Please use the URL for your image postings, rather than the copy and paste code. Posting the photo itself, rather than a link will make it difficult for people who don't have high speed internet, as well it might cause people to skip over your post without promoting.

Only 1 image is allowed per day (within a 24 hour period), both in this discussion and in the group.

There is NO contest vote solicitation allowed on the discussion boards.

If you are posting nudes, or other questionable images, please post a warning notice with your link. There are children here, as well as adults who choose not to look at that type of image.
Please do not post links from your pixels.com account or any other FAA mirror site. It tends to create problems for some people and most will skip those links.

ABSOLUTELY NO images of nudity, death, cruelty or violence of any kind on the main board, where you have no ability to post a warning.

Finally, JUST HAVE FUN!! This is an incredible group of people who will make you feel welcome from your first post!!

TO ALL NEWCOMERS: I realize that some of you are so new to not only the group, but to FAA, that I thought perhaps a little clarification is in order. I'm sure you've noticed that while we can't require anyone to vote/like anyone elses work, we do tend to treat people the way people treat others. But I also realized that you may not have a clue what we're talking about, so........... to "like" someone's work, you click on their blue link, which opens up that particular piece. In the upper right corner, you'll see a few little icons. One is a thumbs up, which is what you press to "like/vote" for that piece of art. Most of us here press that whether we love the work or not. It's how we help each other to move up in the FAA search standings (even though FAA now says it doesn't count for very much, but that's now past history and it is what it is). That's all we ask of you. Should you choose to do so however, you can also click on the little heart (which is to add a work to your own "favorites" list), and you'll also find buttons for the various social media sites if the artist chooses to activate any or all of those buttons. These are the ways we promote each other. You may also choose to vote/like your own submissions. It's perfectly acceptable to do so.

Donna I do have my hands full in one sense but things could be a lot worse :)

PamL I am sure there is room for immigrants round here (if our govt does not succeed in ruining the place ... but that is a whole other story)
On the storu of raining frogs my Grandfather told a story of it raining fish in the UK and similar thing have happened out here.

Stuart congrats on meeting someone new, dont go making ex jokes yet or you might jinx it!

Marianne I guess we late bloomers can enjoy the fruits of our labours better :) I am really enjoying what I do now :)

Cathy long distance relationships can be tough, but they also show how strong a relationship is. Take care :)

Ellen thanks for the thoughts, I do take "me" time every so often. :) Well done on the progress of the cats. WIP shots is a good idea :) Yes take time out for yourself too, bummer on the clay not setting. Hoping your grand daughter is ok.

Jemmy, thanks for that link. I have a lot of high noise, blurry ones from the baptism today. Maybe I will see if I can salvage a few of them.

Hey Lins - The events of this coming week with Richard III's burial is really interesting. Will you be participating in any of the activities??

Ellen - so sorry to hear your granddaughter is ill... prayers

Brian - great job on the website!

Marianne - I was thinking maybe you were the one with the Iceland art - we are seriously looking at going. Were you part of a tour or did you set out on your own? We saw that we could rent a car and drive around the country... so tempted. It looks like it could between Iceland and Alaska..

Kim - thanks for all you do for the group- it is a big job!

Deena - so glad you survived your first week. The change has to be challenging.

Wendy - if Stuart's comments jinx the new relationship then now we know about the past! lol (just kidding Stuart Hugs))

We're going to watch more of Downton Abbey tonight since it looks like we might be dumping cable and would lose our recording,

Thank you for all the prayers for my granddaughter . They're keeping her in observation overnight and on IV fluids, didn't find any foreign objects or a blockage . My daughter just left to go back and stay the night with her. Hoping for some answers, she's been going through so much with her. This group is so wonderful and supportive! (((((((((hugs)))))))))) to you all!

Pam that sounds like a tough choice to make, they're both so beautiful!

Back to the cats - will catch up later!

@Pamela, I went to Iceland on a tour with a fellow photographer friend. It's a small tour group from NYC - happy to put you in touch. Teresa who runs the tours is terrific. We flew to Stockholm, then took a cruise to St. Petersburg and Tallin, Estonia, and then flew to Iceland. It was an amazing place - a cross between Mars and Montana Email me (wordplanet@gmail.com) and I'll give you Teresa's info if you want. I think she does quite a few trips there a year.

I took a bus tour of the "Golden Triangle" - the geysers, falls and other high points and so wish I'd rented a car instead which would have meant more time for photos and stopping for beautiful places on the way, so I definitely would recommend you rent a car while you're there - the roads seem very easy to navigate and there's no traffic.

Haven't been to Alaska so can't compare the two. Iceland is very expensive but incredibly amazing and well worth the trip.
Alaska is on my bucket list! Either one would be amazing.

I'm totally exhausted. With less than 7 weeks to go, I need to really get busy here. The buyers don't want my furniture, and it's going to cost me $800 or so to get it hauled out of here. Given that unexpected expense, I have decided that rather than add about that same amount to ship stuff via UPS, I'm really going to start from scratch, so today I gave away most of my small appliances. It would just be cheaper to replace them (if I really need them at all, given that I don't seem to have any interest in cooking these days).

It is all starting to fall into place though, and I'm actually much calmer than I've been in months.

Deena – congratulations on the job, hope it is something you really enjoy doing
Lins – love your giraffe on black! Looking at the website it looks like you will have a week of events. I see the battlefield ceremony is sold out. Hope you got your ticket.
Ellen – praying for your granddaughter, I hope they find out what is wrong.
Kim – passing you some tissues

No image for me today, will post tomorrow. Thoughts and prayers for all

This is downright scary! To folks like us who view image after image online.... Seems any image could include - in a pixel - a piece of code that could contain malware which crawls onto your computer ... while you're doing nothing but bringing up your image to view online :( At least that's how I understand it, here's the article:
http://blogs.quickheal.com/wp/stegosploit-a-technique-that-can-hack-your-pc-using-just-an-image/

@Sue...I stopped using Microsoft Windows in 2007, primarily, because of the demands of maintaining software that, supposedly, protects me from attacks to my computing environment. I suggest you read this article http://techluminati.com/operating-systems/linux-vs-windows/. I have been using computing systems in my career since 1980 including Windows, Macintosh (Apple), UNIX, and Linux! Windows is the only one, in my experience, that is susceptible that vulnerable to attacks. The various distributions of Linux is ***free***. Currently, I have two (2) desktop and one (1) laptop computers that are running Ubuntu since 2007 without attacks of any kind.
