ABOUT TIME!

I was reading all about 10 and am looking forward to it immensely.

The only time I ever use it is to download large files fast courtesy of the Orbit plugin - as a browser though it's way slow

I like Chrome better but sometimes I have to use IE, for example, when working on another POD with their quick create tool Chrome is way too slow compared to IE. And I just had a problem e-filing my tax returns and had to switch from Chrome to IE to get it to go through. I guess I'll have to try out different browsers to find one that will work with that POD tool.

the only time I've used IE was to get me to Mozilla. Here on my windows 7 pro - I use Waterfox.

i can see this becoming a stunt where they release a totally different lame version. it should come with something though, its usually the first thing i use to download a real browser?

http://www.smartcompany.com.au/technology/46137-microsoft-again-confirms-it-is-replacing-internet-explorer.html

Microsoft has confirmed its new web browser, announced by the company in January 21 as a part of Windows 10, won’t be called Internet Explorer.
.......... Microsoft confirmed speculation that it is replacing Internet Explorer with a new web browser called “Project Spartan”.

if they could just some how combine explorer, MS bob and clippy into one new package... that would be awesome..

I have not used IE for probably 10 years. Safari and Firefox, in my opinion are soooo much better. Chrome is probably ok now too, although it had a lot of bugs when it came out. Linda, I do't know why you are having issues with it, but I don't use it either. IE is so crotchety....like a really old person that can't walk across a room.

The headline I saw is they have some sort of other project to replace it. I did not read the story.

They will design a light weight product like Chrome and be back.

@Marlene, off subject sorry , I just revisited your portfolio and I am so attracted to your works.. They are all so provocative and unique with a style all their own..Im really impressed..I am so glad you have been sharing your works here in the discussion and seen a few of them that really was very notable but did not visit a total portfolio view. I just did and just amazing your works are.. all just a exotic style and different..

Im at a loss of expression here ..something that is not usual for me as you know but I just wanted you to know how much I like your work and the style that you have molded and made into fantastic works. They are so appealing to the eye and draw you in like a moth to a flame..fantastic.. anyway just wanted you to know.. JGP

AFAIK no one is claiming that Spartan is 100% new code. I think MS is mainly retiring a very tired brand name that carries a lot of negative baggage.

Special award to Mike Savad for remembering Bob and Clippy.

Jim,

IE is code heavy. Chrome is code light weight.

There are far more advantages to Google's approach.

@Jean,
Most kind of you to say, thank you. I have been in this fickle business for many, many years. FAA is a good place to share a wealth of experience in both what I've learned along the way and what I've produced.

I had used Internet Explorer from the time I first got internet in 1995 or 96 til just a few weeks ago, BUT it got to where it was always crashing or there were even some games on Facebook that couldn't even run in Internet Explorer. I have 10 Mbps internet (high speed)...I know it's slow speed compared to some places but here it's some of the highest available. Anyways, I was amazed at how slow it had been running thru IE but as soon as I started using Google Chrome I could tell I was really getting my money's worth paying for the 10Mbps. I had been blaming the phone company but it was IE causing all the problems and slow connections. Now, I'm a fan of Google Chrome and only use Internet Explorer on a rare occasion if I can't get something to print right in Chrome.

I practically did a happy dance at that announcement. Each computer I have had I disabled that POS. One time I had to use it and got slammed with a Trojan within minutes. Had to do a recovery, clean the registry...
Propay, a credit card reader that works sort of like Paypal, insists you must use IE in order to upload cc charges from the card reader. Hope they fix that so I can continue to use FF or Chrome.

Those geniuses at Microsoft took my large screen, my keyboard of over 101 keys, and replaced them with a touch screen cell phone interface. I don't want fingerprints all over my screen while I do graphics. I have a hard enough time keeping my glasses clean.

What made ME happy was when they tacitly admitted windows 8 was a dud, and that they would scrap windows 9, and windows 10 would attempt to be a hybrid of the best of windows 7, 8, and some new features. It seems like they keep changing the interface just to change it. I wish they put as much effort into making the OS stable and bug free and secure.

If they're using the same techs to create the new program, what's to stop them from being creatures of habit and having problems with the new program? Did they hire brand new tech people to create the new program? To me it's like using the same mechanic who can't figure out what's wrong with your car, and you keep using that same mechanic to "fix" the same problem that can't be fixed. You get a new mechanic. I'm not a tech, so just wondering how this "new" program will be so much better without the same old problems. Re-branding an old Chevy as a Mercedes does not make it a Mercedes, no matter how many labels you put on it.

Yes the internet exploder is about to die. We owe much credit to it for making the internet happen in a big way. Microsoft led the way by including it as part of windows. The ones that followed learned from it's failures. The all powerful Google with chrome is the best right now.

Microsofts new goal is an os that works on all the platforms ha! I won't be happy until a computer does what I want instead of what I tell itt.

Microsoft will continue to ship IE with Windows to ensure that corporate apps keep functioning properly.

"We recognize some enterprises have legacy websites that use older technologies designed only for Internet Explorer," said Jason Weber, Microsoft's Internet Explorer program manager, in a blog post. "For these users, Internet Explorer will also be available on Windows 10."

Guess I'm I'm the odd man out,.....I've liked Opera since it first arrived,... and share it with Chrome.

On occasion I will jump into IE if I have multiple Chrome and Opera browsers tied up,...won't miss IE though.

Used it mainly on an OS install,...to access/update drivers and grab utilities.

I remember Netscape Navigator,...liked that one too back then.

Never heard of MS bob and clippy????

One neat oldie I found is called "Clip Cache"
Every time you copy to the clip board,...the program maintains complete copies of those clips and allows you to categorize and recall them later.
Great for grabbing (copy) quantities of tidbits at various websites, compiling them in the background seamlessly for later use.

I'm sure it'll be a lot "meet the new browser, same as the old browser..."

I used to hate IE when I was working in web development. It was never compliant with CSS rules so had to write hacks for it to format correctly or create special style pages for IE. Happy to see it go - should have been gone long ago.

Sure they're dropping IE....a name change is more likely. I think it's just a marketing ploy because there is so much great competition for browser choices right now.

I'd say a rose by any other name would still smell as sweet....but I think it'd be more accurate to say a lemon by any other name would taste just as sour.

I doubt I'll even give them a chance. I'm way to happy with Chrome.
