Incredibly expensive.

I hate that the recent updates on my iPhone and iPad include the app for the watch that I can't remove. I have no intention of buying the watch. Including this app in an update makes no sense to me. If I bought the watch, I could just go to the App Store and buy it.

Micro iPad on wrist strap. Will it tell the time? Given that few people actually use their iPhones to actually talk to anyone I can only assume that it will rarely be used as a watch.

I grew up right down the street from Apple headquarters. Apple was my first computer experience and my first digital art experience.

Now I just feel like what they're best at is separating people from their money.

Where are the Pixels iWatch straps?

I'm with Mike on this. A watch shouldn't be dependent on a phone.

I just want an expensive regular watch! Lol

i think in a review they showed that it was hard to find the time. that it defaulted to a desk top. i really can't see anyone really using one of these things, especially since most people don't wear watches any more because they get their time from their phone. this is one of those products that come out by the people of apple, all because steve jobs died. yet because of the hype of making this a fashion statement, there will be people lining up for miles to by a watch.

No thank you. I will not let the Borg assimilate me. Others can allow the Cupertino marketing gurus to tell them what and how they should think, but not me.

Here is a list of the features in a nutshell, https://www.apple.com/watch/technology/
It has a very accurate time piece mechanism, It will give you all of your notifications, You can use Siri on it...navigation etc,,, It can be used for fitness ...I have an expensive baum and mercer watch I never wear but I am tempted to get this watch, I may switch from the samsung phone to apple now that I have the mac.

I actually knew students in the high school I used to work at that could not tell time on an analog watch. If it wasn't digital, with the numbers displayed for them, they were lost. However, they were whizzes at running smart phones, computer programs, etc.

The highways will really become dangerous with people trying to find their favorite little "button" or icon on those watches while they're driving now.

Imagine a world in which people can't read cursive or read an analog clock but can write computer programs and operate high tech. I shutter to think how the world will go on. ;-)

Seriously how hard is it to point your phone at the analog clock and have it Google you the results? Not everyone can read Latin but somehow we manage to survive.

i wonder how long the battery lasts? do you have to recharge it? that screen and functions must eat up a lot of energy.

So true! I don't know why we even bother to call them phones anymore. They are actually tiny computers that happen to have telephoning capabilities, among many other things.

If I ever get rich I will buy my self a stupid watch... yes one that tells you only the time, one from the "VACHERON CONSTANTIN" collection... very expensive but state of the art for me.

Mike it comes with a charger, You charge it like you do your phone..I know people who use smart watches just for fitness,.It tracks your sleep modes, letting you know how much sleep you are getting and it lets you know when you are in the rheum(sp) sleep ...I think that these watches are just a sample of what is to come. In the future I believe everyone will wear one for medical /id and for technical reasons,

I call my device (samsung Note3)
my photographic memory.
I photo an item and with my S-pen I write measurements or comments.
If I write it on paper I often misplace it or can't read what I wrote. My memory is going so I use my device to the fullest.
I'm paying alot for it.

that's too much work for a watch. my watch, solar rechargable. i don't have to change batteries and it updates itself through atomic clock power. i see these new watch ideas as a fad only.

There are those that say phones are getting larger so traditional watches will always be used. I believe the tech watches are the future but I StiLL want a Taguer!

Judy Kay

I think in the future the Tageur ,movado and all other watches will be smart watches too, Just looking pretty won't get it done in the future!

Chuck De La Rosa

Mike, the battery only lasts 18 hours.

Several things will make this watch a tough sell. Price, the fact that you need an iPhone for it to even work (brilliant on Apple's part, forced product purchases), younger people don't wear watches today, and short battery life.

I'm allergic to all things Apple, so no Apple watch for me.

For a watch I'll stick with my Fossils.

Mike Savad

you can still find gear watches. and i just don't see places like movado getting into that. after all they never picked up on that number phase all the other companies were doing.

i can see this as a class of its own, focused on the geek crowd or the apple crowd that was programmed to love their things. i still see it as a fad. no phone, watch stops working. forget to charge it. watch stops. power goes out for days. can't use the watch as a watch.

Back when Nokia was cellphone king, and those nuggety little contraptions had a few extra features beyond a phone, and a charge would last a week, Sony worked on a model that had a hd camera (for a phone), storage to let it double as a Walkman, a chip that enabled it to play advanced games (beyond Snake) - but with all these functions the NiCad batteries could only hold a charge for three and a half hours, so they shelved it.

And a couple of years later Apple announced the iPhone...

Things like the Apple watch and Google Glass look like they were dreamed up in a lab to justify the salaries of product developers, not to serve an unfulfilled need or desire of the masses, hence the ho-hum reaction. A few people might find a practical use for such products, but most of us won't, much less be able to justify the expense.

The other day I was in the Apple store and saw the watches, I predict it will be a huge success, especially for those who are on the go and have a large social presence, I can't imagine anyone buying a watch that only tells time when you can have a watch that will do so much more, I think it will kill the watch market and only a few like rolex will survive, I really think google glass would have been a success but I think the it was ahead of its time and twas just too much technology for the general masses to adopt, financially or intellectually!

"... I can't imagine anyone buying a watch that only tells time when you can have a watch that will do so much more, I think it will kill the watch market and only a few like rolex will survive..."

Judy,

I don't see that happening due to the cost alone, and there are actually people out there who just want to know what time it is, whether it's using an inexpensive digital watch, or even an old school analog one. I believe there's a majority of folks who don't need, or want, an expensive piece of technology strapped to their wrists. Just my thoughts. :)

We've gone from having a watch to having a cell phone that tells us the time ... now to a watch that has the features of the smartphone. Personally, I use a flip phone and have an iPad with wifi for everything else ... it works. Both tell me the time.

Greg Jackson

Ditto on that, Frank. My MotoRazr flip phone is going on 8 years now, still using the original battery, which holds a charge much longer than the iPhones my wife had, or the current Galaxy. Granted, the smartphones can do a whole lot of stuff, but I get by with the flip phone and now my wi-fi non-Apple brand tablet. :)

btw, here's the cure for texting while driving:

A lot of medical apps are being developed for example, that will make it very desirable, I can envision a time when medical alerts can be accessed for people wearing the watch that will display any medical issues associated with that person, There will probably be a medical alert database and a simple code entered at a medical emergency that will display any and all medical/pharmaceutical precautions related to that person. Just an example, Phones are getting larger and the watch will enable notifications at a glance to facilitate the process, The phones are really attractive and the faces are fully customizable, The watch has the health feature that tracks your activity, how much you have walked ,your blood pressure /heartrate etc, There are people who buy watches just for that purpose for just about the same cost, The Iwatch does so much more and I think the watch will grow in popularity as apps are developed for it! I think people think of it as a watch,,,i think of it as a wrist computer that by the way "tells the time"!

Greg Jackson

I agree, Judy. Lots of possibilities for the technology, but I don't see them killing the general watch market.

What was that old Timex saying? "...takes a licking, and keeps on ticking". :)

Greg -- you and I are in good company. Many of the public figures I photograph from time to time you will find for security reasons they either have a flip phone or a Blackberry along with an Ipad. They don't put their stuff on their phone.

Greg Jackson

Whenever we're in the cell phone store here, which is not very often, and the sales people bring up our account, they always tell me that I'm eligible for an upgrade. I show them my phone and tell them it works just fine. They always tell me how many requests they get from people looking for the old Razr phones.

Frank J Casella

Not surprised Greg!

Simplicity trumps technology. Good old wrist watches will be around for a long time. Sales will continue to drop though because the under 35 crowd does not wear watches. And this is the reason that the Apple Watch will not be the smash sensation that other Apple products have been. The other reason is that you must have an iPhone for the Apple watch to work. That's a whole lot more complicated than Apple's normal way of doing things. Apple makes appliances that are simple to operate. Making one device dependent on another is counter intuitive.

That's not to say the Apple watch will be unsuccessful. It certainly will be. But not like previous Apple products.

I believe the last time I wore a watch was in junior high school. Don't need one now since my iPhone keeps time, too,

Greg Jackson

I left the workforce on May 30, 2012. Haven't had a watch on since then, and my Razr keeps time well. :)

I forgot to mention, I love my collection of Fossil watches! I get them as refurbs and pay about a fraction of the cost of new ones. Best watches on the market for the money.
