Shop Socially?

Anybody ever use shopsocially.com? Just curious before I give personal information to a place I've never heard of before.

Never heard of it

Me neither, Abbie. Why I posted.

A well-known canvas printer has started using them and offering discounts thru them. But claiming the discount means you have to purchase thru shopsocially.com. To do so you have to reveal personal info as well as share in social media. I'm not willing to give personal info, including credit cards, to any old clown.

I saw this video which basically helped me decide NOT to consider them.

Think I'll write the canvas printer and ask if all their promotions will now be routed thru shop socially. If the answer is yes, I'll simply unsubscribe from their email list and cease doing business with them.

Thanks for the reply, Abbie.

Dan,

Have you looked them up on Alexa.com or compete.com
for stats?

I just heard of Wanelo.com probably a similar website. I was curious
about how free standing they are from other entities. I still do not fully
know who the owners are. But you can pin to Pinterest from Wanelo.
So it is not all that cut and dry as far as what sort of front they are
for sales. I think they are independent of Pinterest though.

There are dozens of smaller Pinterest wannabees. One I looked into
a couple of months ago had a small office and a grand website. Something must
have happened to the office or office personnel because the operation was closing down
by the time I found out about it. In other words if you are small and you brake a leg, you are done.
Oh and the other problem with the prior find was the shipping. It took forever for people to get
the product. Kind of a one man shop, turned Pinterest. There were complaints about the
shipping times across the internet.

David,

They are apparently relatively new. Built for retailers, to help the retailers market on social media.

Nearest I can tell they are a socially-media-driven fulfillment service. A retailer runs a promo. But instead of dealing with the retailer, you register with shopsocially giving them all your personal information, credit card, and social media info. You buy a voucher from shopsocially and pay the retailer for the promo with it. In the process, everything is social-media-broadcast. You can also earn points, etc. by social-mediaing the retailer who ran the promo.

They seem to be extremely popular with the "social-media-driven giggling 12-year old girl who will give her personal information to anybody and everybody who asks" crowd which was enough for me to stay far away.

As said above, I have written the retailer (canvas printer in this case) to ask if all future promos will be driven thru shopsocially. They have not replied.
