Opportunity To Show At Art/craft Show

I've been invited to show my Pictures at an Art and Craft Show on March 20th. Small town, church sponsored, but an opportunity to show some of my work. I'm excited and full of nerves but hopeful that it will prove to be a great success.

Congrats so I am guessing then you have some printed off for the show?

Yes I have printed off 17 or 18. I have 8 that I have framed for the show with mats. I think they look good in frames. Somewhat nervous and anxious. Never shown in public setting. So guess I'll get a good idea if I have some thing or not. Several of the pictures I printed have been featured in groups I have joined. Thanks for responding to my post.

I know you have them but have business cards handy for those that show interest in your wares. Also have a sign up sheet for those that would like to receive email updates from you.

Have business cards ready and I printed off a catalog sheet for a picture I took of the sponsoring church in case someone would like a picture of their building and the sign-up sheet for email good idea. Thank you for the suggestion. Everyone here is so helpful and encouraging. Thank you.

Earl,

Congrats! For actual sales income, I would have a bunch of small, 5x7's or even 4x6's in mats, backboard and bagged. Under $25 and closer to $15.00. These shows rarely have people buying stuff, but more a "something to do" show, so don't get disappointed if you have little or no sales, been there done that! LOL!

Good Luck,

Rich

Best of Luck. I participated in my first show last October in Provincetown, Ma. Provincetown is an art mecca at the tip of Cape Cod. I was very nervous about being good enough - I almost didn't go ahead for that reason. Thank God I did because I learned that while I wasn't the best, I could hang in there with some excellent photographers. It was a great experience and I can only hope to be invited back again.

Have fun with it.

Thanks everyone. My plan is to direct everyone to my website and let things happen. I have taken a picture of the church building of the sponsoring church. Will promote the throw pillows. Sometimes church members like to bless a friend from the church with a pillow that has a picture of the local church on it. Or just a nice picture of their church to hang on the wall. So will see what happens. If every thing is done through Fine Art America seems like there would be less work having to collect sales tax and having to get a tax license and a whole lot of book keeping. So trying to take the easy way.

Another tip, when someone walks up, make eye contact, smile and say hi or hello. I have watched so many vendors sit there in silence instead of engaging in conversation. It makes a huge difference whether or not that person will stay and take a better look at your work. When I would see someone looking at a particular photo, I would walk up and tell them where it was taken and any story behind getting the photo. It is amazing the difference it makes. We always did extremely well at craft/art shows. But it is a lot of work and trying to figure out just what to print and mat that would sell was just a guess. Like mentioned before, have smaller sizes available. We always did well with cards also.

Earl,

One of the things you want people to do, is NOT glance in and then walk away. You need to get them into your spot and asking questions. Here's what I have next to each of my images, some much longer than this. People LOVE reading about where this was and when, etc.

And be ready to GAB!

p.s. By the way, how will you arrange for payment? Many people no longer have checks and they use their credit cards, mostly, so you might need to either rent a credit card machine, or buy a "Square" which works with a smart phone and is really free after you get thier rebate check.
