What Is Up With Creepy Clowns ?

There is a group of people that like the stuff that isn't fluffy bunnies and rainbows. A smaller group, no doubt, but they are out there.

Does this creep you out? It's not a clown.

creepy clowns i like, you know what's on their mind. it's plain clowns i don't like, you have no idea what they are thinking, they always seem to be happy, those are the ones you have to watch out for. but yeah, i can see them selling. any other creepy clowns... they ban...

I find Max on the creepy side but not nearly as creepy as some .

I'm with ya, Gerald! I don't think there's such a thing as a non-creepy clown.

Jeffery your clowns are fine they do not bother me it is the demon clowns with deranged faces I can not stand.

Some people just like, or are fascinated by, looking at creepy stuff. It's been around a long time, freak shows at carnivals, stories by Edgar Allen Poe, haunted houses at Halloween. Just a streak in human nature. Doesn't dance my muse, but... this is just a different manifestation of the same 'ol thing...

Cheryl I can see reading a scary book or going to a freak show and I love Poe but the deranged clown thing is to much for me.

Ever see the movie "Magic"?

Pretty much made those ventriloquist dolls spooky for me.

John: Uh, no. Probably not my thing, I really don't like creepy movies, so I haven't seen a lot of them.

I never watched Magic but I watched Chucky and I most likely got this strong feeling against creepy clowns and dolls from that movie.

I am not a fan of clowns period - ever see It by Stephen King?

I am with you Gerald, can't stand to look at them either. But I had nightmares after watching Frankenweenie with my grandchildren! LOL

Ok,so let's mix up the discussion a little. Clown faces are, in some circles, considered art. I read somewhere that clowns could -- I can't remember which, maybe both: trademark or copyright their clown face makeup designs. (Don't hold me to that, I don't remember where I read it, and I didn't research it to see if that's actually true.)

Anyway... if clown faces (not the creepy ones, the professional circus ones) can be copyrightable art, or trademarked as a clown's brand... is there anyone out there who knows anything about clown faces as an art form?

so it's the perfect seller, makes a good house warming gift for people you don't like that much. makes a good conversation starter for the same reasons. imagine inviting guests over, whom you could care less about, and say - how do you like our new art, and just watch the response as they see mean pointy toothed clowns with knives stare back at you.

i think that would be a killer idea, if i had some.

i think a clown as art is ok. but if you take that clowns identity and steal that and use it as your own - stolen clown identity, then the other clown could sue for that reason. and i know for one, i would love to see that court case.

I had someone at a show tell me they wanted to buy "Max" to hang in their bathroom. That way he could scare the crap out of them whenever they went in the room.

Magic was pretty creepy then (late 70's) but may be a bit cheesy now. It isn't a slasher film, more like a suspense. It had Anthony Hopkins in it.

How about the clown in the movie "Zombieland"? I am surprised it took that long for someone to have a zombie clown! He was pretty creepy.
