Leaving Square Space. Ideas?

I have a site outside of FAA and am fed up to here (pointing to chin) with Square Space. They were very responsive with support during my 30-day free trial. Now it's sheer frustration. No phone support available. Chat support not available many times. My site and I need a new home. Thanks.

I would suggest godaddy.com ONLY if you do not have to show a ton of images.....the new version of the software is not user-friendly for artists.
Support is fabulous...24/7 on the phone or online.

I have looked at many options and actually purchased many different web-sites. My favorite by far, is zenfolio. It is sooo simple and has everything you need including direct printing with MPix. If you don't like that you can try smug mug. I just found it too complicated to set-up the site. Hope that helps. :)

I made a half-assed attempt through format.com. It's not bad I guess, but I was just about to switch to Squarespace 7 after trying it out. Liked it way better than 6. What exactly are you having problems with besides support?

Dean, I've always found my site slow. I've gone back and decreased the size of my images for the web. This has only minimally helped.
My biggest gripe is their support. For example, today I wanted to (oh, I'm not good with the proper techie lingo) but I wanted my gallery link to directly link back to FAA. At the moment, my galleries are full of images, which then need to be clicked on, and then the link to FAA clicked. It seems so bogged down, heavy, slow and unnecessary to have all those steps. The space to insert the new URL link wouldn't work and, believe me when I tell you, I worked on it all day.

The very slow email replies from SS were unhelpful and seemed repetitive.

I am on Bluehost and I recommend them.

I use WordPress .org......NOT .com

I recommend WP.org, but it is ultra difficult to use. It is no walk in the park.
Most major companies use WP.org, only some now a days have their own in
house website developed from scratch.

If you dont mind a huge challenge WP.org

Otherwise Squarespace, Weebly, Wix all very similar drag and drop technologies that try
to get you to upgrade. Easier to set up and use.

Just the facts ma'am.

Leaving square space? When I read that at first, I thought it was a question about composition.

I think maybe I got up too early this morning...

When I first started using format there was also an issue with the hyperlinks not working. They did ultimately solve it though. They were relatively quick to reply to my emails.

The reason I am looking at squarespace is the apparent ease and the what-you-see-is-what-you-get approach. But if it's slow then that's no good.

Could you maybe post a link to your website?

I use Zenfolio and am very happy with them, although a little expensive at $250 a year. They are quick to answer support questions and are always making improvements. You now have the option to store your RAW files with them. You have many options on how to set up your site and they offer how-to videos as well. I signed up with Zenfolio through Miller's Professional Imaging, who I use for my portrait printing.

I have a Smugmug website that I've had for ages. I don't sell from there and I direct sales to my Artist website. It can be somewhat frustrating to design your own site,
but eventually you get the hang of it and the also provide video tutorials.

Jane Mcllroy, you made me laugh so hard this morning! For that I thank you. :)

Well, upon threat of taking my business elsewhere, I woke up to an email from a DIFFERENT support team member.
He created a video just for me - using my site - to show my how to resolve my problem. After this clear explanation, problem solved in three minutes!

Thank you all for your suggestions of where to build a new site. I will research everything. Don't want to make a mistake. Things could be worse?

I still have things to tweak. Not sure I'm happy with font. Would like site to load faster. There's always something, I guess. :)

I use WordPress.com after trying the rest. They have a portfolio niche which I don't use: https://wordpress.com/portfolios/

Here is my site http//:frankjcasella.wordpress.com

I no longer use a custom domain name, but when I did I found 1and1.com to be a better fit than when I had GoDaddy.

If you would like a referral link with first year discount send me a DM, as my nonprofit uses them.
