Pixelated

Is it my imagination or does this picture look pixelated? I think the background looks pixelated but I think the bird is ok??

The bird which appears to photoshopped into the picture seems to be of a different resolution and is blurrier. Also the stone or stump or whatever is blurry

The bird is ever so slightly blurry ..but I am referring to the background which to me looks slightly stretched out of shape, I assume that is what pixelated means...but I looked at the original photograph and it looks the same, I added some foliage to some of the barren areas,,,,I think in doing so I may have stretched that part,,,,but when I look at the photo from the camera it doesn't look much different, Could be an optical illusion?!...or I think I know the answer, When I added the foliage it didn't go with the flow so to speak,,and is somewhat "out of synch"! with the overall growth pattern of the foliage?!

agree the bird has flown the coop ...edit place the green box on the back of his head it has a fish like quality...on the front beak you can then see the difference with the foliage .

the bird isn't sharp, but it doesn't look noisy or anything. the focus is on the leaves.

It is so difficult getting a good photo of a bird, You don't have a lot of time to play with settings ,,,they are gone in an instant, The bird is not crystal clear,,,I wanted to sharpen it but I recall you saying something to the effect that we should not sharpen images too much because FAA sharpens them,,, could this bird be brought into crystal clear focus and if so what program would I need to get it rock solid. Obviously ideally it would be at the point of capture within the camera,,but.not always possible ,,..I use iPHOtO but I do have another programs I play around with Image tricks lite,,, etc. I am just not sure the slight blurr in the bird can be corrected..

i don't do bird shots, but if i did i would either choose a spot focus. or one of those smart modes where it tracks it, using a continuous focus. i'd set it to a medium depth like f9 or so. then train the camera on the bird or the log and shoot that. problem is, because there is so much extra in the frame it's locking onto the nice green leaves. rather than the low contrast black thing in the center. can't sharpen it any because there isn't enough to sharpen.

with things like this you may shoot 80 and keep 1 if your lucky. otherwise you need a long fast lens. sometimes you can predict a habit, there is only one perch and there are only so many berries. but if you stand out too much it will dart off.

if you want an exercise in frustration, try shooting bees in flight.

Thanks Mike..I shoot birds usually in Aperture Priority,,,I probably should start trying to use Shutter Priority because there is motion involved, Aperture Prio is ok when they are standing still but the slightest motion will probably be detected, Usually when I do shoot birds they are perched but even so often there may be a slight movement involved, I can only imagine shooting bees, I try to get birds in flight and its almost impossible to get and keep the in the view finder, I lucked out one day in the Glades, I literally had to scare the egrets to get them to go into flight but I had the camera aimed and ready to shoot, PS..I love your new "do"!

it should be a fast click, or it will blur. or manual if you have auto iso. you can clean iso, just not blur.

egrets will let you get about 30ft or before take off. so if you have a friend who can just kind of spook them, they will dart off. i have a bunch i got years ago i never used. luckily they are huge, easy to focus.

i think my new avatar is scaring people away, my sales, not a good start. i guess they feel intimidated or maybe they are trying to read descriptions with his accent.

The elements you've pasted together seem incongruous to me, but I wouldn't say it was pixelated. As David mentioned, the log is blurry, the bird less so.

Pixelated means being able to see each pixel with the naked eye, and pixels appear as squares. I don't see the bird or the background as being pixelated, but the bird is very blurry

The harmony thing is kinda funny when you think about it,,,People always want everything to harmonize either in a photograph or a painting ,,,but if you think about it birds or other nature for that matter land where ever they may with little or no concern about how they "harmonize! Why can't it be so in art,,??? I generally agree with the harmony thing and I usually try to match the bird with the background etc,,because I know its what people expect,,,but it really is not that natural is it ???
I thought pixelated meant that it was distorted, out of shape, What is the term then for photos when some of the elements are distorted?

Mike Savad

umm... i call them distorted.
