Weasel Photographed Riding On Woodpecker's Back

Seems this weasel literally bit off more than he could chew! Captured by photographer Martin Le May. Here's a link to the story: http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-31711446

WOW is all I can say

Thanks, absolutely amazing....

I see several discussion threads about this photo.

I say "riding" is being a bit optimistic. Trying to KILL it seems more accurate.

I have seen lions "riding" buffalo and elephants as well.

Well, I looked at the first two pages and didn't see those other threads. Too little coffee, I suppose.

The thread police are always quick to point out the violation...back to the post pretty cool pic and a one in a million shot.

Wow, this is amazing, and if the photograph also showed the weasel's face, that would be even more amazing! Dang! Still, pretty cool. I'm hoping the woodpecker flew back to the ground, the weasel jumped off, and each went on its merry way. Anybody know?

This was a great catch and it's probably pretty rare that this happens. The weasle probably pounced on the woodpecker to make a kill for dinner. The woodpecker reflexively took off. Thus being at the right place at the right time really paid off.

So - which 2016 Presidential dream ticket does this photo suggest? JUST KIDDING. NO POLITICS allowed here. :-0

I googled his name (as one does) to learn he was an amateur photographer, across the twitterverse it clocked more than a million views in a day*.

Good thing he remembered to sign it

I think it works because it's like a real world Avatar in miniature

I suspect the folks a Halliburton are trialling an especially large budgie for us all to be able to ride

*Possibly a zillion

I love it - but can we be sure it's not photoshopped?

Cynthia Decker

Well it was all over the web, and there are other photos that seem to show the same thing. I believe it's real.

But the honest answer is, these days, you never know.

He says not. I like to think he is telling the truth.

Thanks for posting this, Cynthia! Fantastic!
That is quite dramatic, to say the least. The natural world often presents us with amazing accidents (or not) that are almost hard to believe...
I have to admit that my first reaction was simply to laugh. Weird things happen...and glad that neither critter was harmed.

I am sure that a lot of us "out there in nature" have experienced some pretty odd-ball events. I have as well. This one fairly tops it though, lol!
