I love the cover up one. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for these, Richard.....I especially loved "Don't look back." It reminded me of a Stephen King novella ("The Langoliers") where there were little creatures gobbling up the immediate past and the characters were trying to stay ahead of them.....

his stuff is a little too involving, i don't think i'd go as far as making the models. but it looks like in at least the one where he showed the movie, that the whole thing was 3-d with textures and photoshop. i didn't see the point of using models at all, except for texture of the land.

Nice. I like the house and the bridge ones the best.

Very good work. Not my speed. I wonder how he sells. If he is waiting to be a fad or going to sell
his work well over his entire career.

and this is why unique and interesting/original art is best. it advertises itself. i do wonder how long one takes to make though. that one with the green seemed to be over a span of weeks. i just don't have the patience for stuff like that. and it confuses my brain.

David, I don't think we have to worry about that...he's 30 years old and already has done a TED talk!
He's got a more than impressive body of work, consistent, thought provoking, etc....I just bet people have already said " I knew him when..."

Richard, thanks for posting this. Beautiful, imaginative work. I liked the behind-the-scenes video, too.

Marlene,

Who was the guy who made the staircase drawings that went around in circles end to end never stopping?

He was famous for the same idea very very long ago.

He is 30, but I would bet he is a one trick pony.

About two years ago a friend of my sisters did a TED talk. She is an internationally well known musician/singer. She gave
her music away online. She only said if you want to donate for the free music please feel free. She made $1.3 million
in donations pretty fast. She has a radical personality. But she is only a so so musician with somewhat poorer production
qualities, in this day and age. Artistically speaking she is not even a one trick pony. She is a radical who cashed in.

are we talking about escher? because everyone still knows who that guy is, even now. and he only did that to amuse himself, did them on napkins and scraps of paper. one trick pony or not, he did a good job as this guy does.

ideally, you can't criticize a guy unless you can either do what he does, or do it better.

bach was a one trick pony.

there are many that fit that and it doesn't matter, since they did not only a good job, but people know who they are, even now. i've been seeing this guys work for years. being on TED though doesn't impress me, because i've seen 7year olds talk at that thing.

I don't care if he is a one-trick pony... wish I could do that trick!

To see art by someone who started off by drawing on bar napkins to entertain his friends, check out Edward Gorey.

David, you need to spend some time looking at Erik's complete portfolio before you neglect to count tricks.

I just thought they were neat, fun artwork. Yes, we know M C Escher is famed for this but it doesn't stop this work being good ;-)

M C Escher is the most popular drawing artist in the world due to his illusions.

The fish and the dragging of the road I have seen a few times previously. Their bylines say each was done in 2008.

He has also done 3D street illusions, but unlike the artist that paints them, Johansson apparently prints them out then installs them. http://erikjohanssonphoto.com/work/mind-your-step/

sometimes it may work in your favor if you specialize, i would not call it a one trick pony though as i find that rather simplistic and naive, considering the work that actually goes into each one. they can say - he's the guy that does such and such. like there's another that specializes in flying houses. its good to be known for certain things in particular.
