Vain

"Vain" is a portrait of a peacock living in the Peacock Sanctuary in Austin, Texas. Multiple peacocks reside here showing off their beautiful vivid colored feathers. This park was a stop on my roadtrip through Texas.

A puffin Kind of day is a whimsical painting that was inspired by a little girl who won a writing contest and gaining access to a solo visit to see the puffins at the zoo and having a special day with them. The child has been quite an inspiration even though young, she has endured many sorrows so the celebration of this feat was something that I wanted to illustrate. The painting is competed on canvas using a blocking gesso and flowing inks. The painting is bright but in pastel pinks, blues and yellows, highlighted in golds. The birds fill the canvas as they surround the child who is calmly reading a book crosslegged on the ground. The painting is ideal for a child's bedroom, but is a favorite in the whimsy collection by men as much as women. Thank you for taking the time to look at this lighthearted piece.

A chestnut-backed chickadee (Poecile rufescens) strikes a pose for a very brief moment while foraging with its peers in a bottle brush tree in the front yard.

If you look closely, you can see it grasping the long vibrant stamens of the blossom with its feet. I thought it was so precious, the way this elegant bird was holding onto the blossom for dear life, its beak slightly open as if saying, "Hurry up and take my photo!"

During the COVID-19 stay-at-home order in California, God is providing these amazing nature photo ops in my own yard that I would have missed otherwise. As the founding pastor of my church said, nothing is wasted in God’s economy. The Creator will turn life's challenges into something good ~ if we but look patiently for the opportunity.

The infamously cheeky Kea is endemic to the South Island of New Zealand and is the worlds only alpine parrot.
This colourful bird is known for its intelligence and curiosity, they have been observed solving puzzles and terrorising tourists.
