Gallery Quandary

I think I need to regroup my galleries because I have added additional medias but not sure best way to go about it, I have photos, paintings, mixed media and digital. sometimes wonder if it would not just be better to open a separate account but even then would be unclear which to include, Photos and mixed media in one, paintings and mixed media,,, Or just straight photography in one and the other to have paintings, mixed media and enhanced photos, or does it even matter?? Organization is not my strength ,,,try as I may everything seems muddled up!

If I just stay with one account, should I have photos, paintings, mixed media/digital and put everything in that,,,or the way i have it now,,,grouped by genre..dance.animals,famous people, birds etc,
the more diversified I become the more difficult it is becoming to manage effectively,
I have to go out now so won't be able to respond util later this pm, but would appreciate any feedback or suggestions!

Jud, just keep in mind that a POD site sells prints.....that is the media.

i think it should be listed by subject and just mix them if you want. it will be too confusing to go through otherwise.

Mike, do you mean that if for example I have a gallery called "beach" that it should/could include photos of beach, paintings of the beach, and digital or photo manipulations of the beach in that same gallery. or by subject do you mean have a gallery of photos,a gallery of paintings and a gallery of mixed media ,,,digital art ?? Marlene, not understanding your statement as it relates to my question!

yeah. i found it's easier to just view it all in one place. unless you have 200 photos and 200 paintings. i think buyers can figure it out. if you could arrange it a little bit by hand, putting paintings on the bottom for example, that can be done as well.

like i have photos and digital art mixed into the same gallery.

i wonder if there is a way to sort by media. probably not, i'm hoping that's on the white list of improvements. i'd like alphabetical myself.)

That because this site sells prints, people will be looking for pictures of subjects....beaches, cities, landscapes, etc, not paintings of, digital images of....etc

That said, I use faa to find me clients to buy original paintings, so I have several galleries of paintings.

This may be just me, but I get confused when I look through people's galleries of a subject and they have both photography and either digital works (including vastly processed photos) or works on paper.

My brain wants only one medium in a gallery. But that's just me. Of course, I don't have that many works on paper or purely digital works posted, so they fit neatly into two galleries - digital and drawings. The rest (all photography) are divide by subject and the photo-collages are broken out into their own gallery.

I think people who are looking for a particular subject are also looking for a particular medium as well. But like I said, that may be just me....

I agree that since they are most likely not buying an original painting here, the original medium is not as relevant as the subject matter. I would divide my galleries by subject and put all works of a subject in one gallery, no matter the media. So yes--paintings, digital art and photography of the beach all in the Beach gallery. Buyers are by and large looking for subject matter or color.

Why not side by side gallerys. Example: 1) Beach Photographs 2) Beach Oil Paintings

I like the separation of photography and digital from paintings; because, I mostly view only paintings. However, because a user can use the search engine to sort photos from paintings, I don't think this is a necessary way to run galleries. Therefore, what works best for you in terms of organization?

Thanks everyone. Your input helps, It didn't used to be quite so difficult but as the photo count mounts and the different medias/mediums , I was not sure, I usually try to keep all my images together as much as possible,,,I leave the latest upload in the beginning for a couple of days , Then I try to sort it with other like images, I don't know if anyone else has this problem but it is becoming a little more difficult to share photos now because for example I initially setup with twitter promoting my paintings,,,,(Especially on google+) I have almost abandoned sharing to google + because now I find myself sharing photographs instead,,,so many of my circles are painters,,so I feel weird sharing a photo to a bunch of artists and vice versa, and I don't want to continually share the same pictures of my paintings over and over, This holds especially true with the communities i joined, I suppose i need to find new communities that are more photography and digital art oriented,,, This circle thing is not working out too well now, I love google+..It is one of my favorites but I have lost my focus somehow there and everywhere for that matter,I have the same dilemma on Flickr, I enjoy photography so much but really am not into the marketing thing! There just is not enough hours in the day for that and trying to maintain a household too,

If you shoot a photograph of a painting and are selling prints then you are selling a digital print. If you are selling original painting and not prints then that is paintings. I would do separate galleries for original paintings. So how should you categorize?

Not that it has made any difference in sales - but I opened two accounts (actually there is a third 'free' one). One has my photographs and the other has my digital work - as well as some left over watercolor stuff - I keep thinking I'll delete those.
