Blue / Black - Gold / White Dress Gif

I found this gif on tumblr that will probably clarify the whole blue / black vs gold / white controversy. I was going to post this on the thread about this subject but it was closed before I was able to. Here's the link: http://littlelimpstiff14u2.tumblr.com/post/112348184390/tumboy-what-is-this-sorcery

it doesn't seem to clear things up, unless the white balance is confused when it's really close, and when its far away it fixes itself? which might explain why it looks proper in amazon.

this looks like one of those octopuses changing its color into a background.

It's basically just the way the camera sensors pick up light; especially yellow light reflecting off of certain dyes. I think it's basically this combined with how our brains compensate for distorted light reflection. I think it's an optical illusion of sorts.

i think at night, that dress eats people.

I think all the dresses should be burned...you know...just in case.

it really goes to show how easily distracted, even a bit gullible and really bored people are these days since the net came out.

still wondering what the material is, there are materials that change in color depending on angle. the name totally escapes me. it looks red at one angle and black on another.

Lance, that example is not the blue/black of the dress..If you scroll thru the answers, you will see it on Fran's thread.

Mike, iridescent or sharkskin

@Marlene

I realize that it is not the same dress but it is a black and blue dress and the gif demonstrates the same effect.

Hello everyone, thanks Lance for continuing, it is no doubt it is a sensation, but what they also have to do is investigate what exactly type of lighting used, that does enhance or diffuse white light. I am sure everyone one has gone to Home Depot, walk up to the paint department and they have every imaginary paint chip, then you can hit a switch and see the true color of the paint chip change before your eyes, its not a trick of any sorts or an illusion, different degrees of light source.

Who took the original photo, and yes if the took it and then noticed the once dark navy blue dress and black is now an image on her cell phone as a light powder blue and gold, what made her even think about sending the photo in the first place.....she obviously was there and new it was navy blue etc....Janine actually thought it was a marketing plan.....on the shop or dress designer, and then it just snowballed a chain reaction....of a photo on a cell unexplainable.

I had even thought because of modern technology, could this occur with a 35mm camera as well. And this sort of thing had occurred and thought it to be a flare from the lens or that particular section of the negative prior to being exposed....

Then is has to be the light light source, are you telling me that dress is navy blue and white in the video above. I see a brown or beige and white dress pattern That dress in the video above is not navy blue and white. I am not color blind and the video is a joke...there is nothing blue and black about that dress, lol, lol, lol, it is brown or beige and white, end of that discussion.

Lance says its a blue and black dress well its not. Reason being then when I look at black and blue dress I am seeing brown and white....lol, lol, lol, I do not have TV, just use the inner net..

I was just thinking why would Fran have to close a discussion thread because it ran it course when no one responds to a discussion thread then it runs its course, sometimes they are very hard to find when no one responds to then, IMO :) Now what I will have do is it contact the police and inform them the guy who kidnapped me in my Blue Cherokee Jeep was actually a brown jeep, and my kidnapper who held a gun to my head while I was driving did not have a blue duffle bag but brown, nor was his jacket blue but brown. Never under estimate the power of suggestion, the video above is not a blue and black dress, smiling. But my story is fact, IMO what if is not real, then I would have to think I am gong crazy or I am actually color blind which I am not and go to the doctor Monday. Or could it be my brain tumor is back, and its affecting my vision, I sure hope not.

So now everyone is going to be posting their version of the illusion as they call it. Is there a video posted anywhere where this was demonstrated and I am referring about a woman dress, the answer is no, there is not. Why is all the hoopla about the navy blue and black dress, because Taylor Swift happened to see the photo and freaked out over it

@Marlene, how and why does that occur, in that material, is it the stich of the threads and combination, you look at one angle you see green, another angle maroon.

Lance suggest its a blue and black dress, if it weren't blue and black then there would be no doubt to believe it otherwise, now if you would have said and told everyone it was a beige or brown and white dress, then maybe I would see black and blue..lol, lol, lol,

My best guess.....it has to do with the texture of the material used ( very silky) and the configuration of the thread colors for the warp and weft....most fabrics intermingle the threads going in both directions for a good blend. Logic tells me that if you want to see each color used, keep one color going horizontally and the other color vertically....
Lance, well apparently my brain doesn't see cobalt blue in your example and jet black....I didn't see it in the original dress either

this material, this stuff can fool the eye and camera. though doesn't really explain why that dress looked proper in the movie, but not at the top of my screen. though i do have a bluish light, so maybe...

@Mike, that is the best, your avatar, you now look like Einstein. We all look up to you when it comes to monitor adjustments, color correction, does this mean I will have to go back and re read all your links on the topic.....

How will any reporter report, the victim had black and blue bruises......smiling. I bet the reporters are having a great field day with all of this. I had to laugh I read today a reporter stated the article and example they posted had nothing to do at all about the Black and Blue dress....lol

i liked the post where a guy posted a golden yellow cat and said - this is a picture of a blue cat. and everyone cursed him out. bruising changes when it ages. and it shows up much differently depending on the light source. right now they have machines that use a special light filter to highlight veins. it's super gross, but good if you have picky veins and sharp needles.

yeah march is einstein month, a theorist and an art collector. he just loved art, it's a true fact because you saw it on the net.

plus i got use from the beetlejuice hair. but i also ran out of them and have to make more now.

Marlene it was power of suggestion.....the video is a beige and white patterned dress., no special effects.

@Lol, that is way too funny, I think I may have see that on Face Book, I am sure that video made it to FB, well, I am just stumped over the blue and black dress, I would surely hate to think all my life I was brown and black color blind, and as I mentioned above which is fact the kidnaping I would have to change everything, but we all know I had a blue jeep which was midnight blue.
It was printed in Black type and notice I did not say black and white...lol....it was black type.....I did have a navy blue Cherokee jeep..

Mike are you sure that is not photoshop, you do look like Einstein.....I don't think he wore a tie a lab coat but no tie or did he....

it is photoshop, my face is some where in all of that. looking for suit ideas, he happens to have the exact same model suit i have, so all i needed was a quick colorize and i'm done. march doesn't have a lot of things going on it. einstein wasn't really a lab coat guy, he usually wore a wool flasher jacket.

I can see the tabloids, tv news coverage, every girl is going to wear yes, blue and black prom dresses, it would be called trendy, Blue and Black. Yes, even K Mart had of course a Blue Light Special...lol
