Custom Background Colour/image For Artwork Pages

Hello,

Am I the only one who doesn't like the snow white background? It kind of kills the mood for me.

I really like my dark theme and background but once you press on thumbnail, it brings you to a page where almost everything is white.

I wonder why it has not been implemented yet. You can customize the look of the main page but you are not able to do so for IMAGES page.

OR maybe I am missing something and you can do it, but I don't know about it. Though, I have checked plenty of websites prior writing this and everyone has snow white background for their images.

i think it stays white. and it should be white. black is too jarring. just keep it clean and white. the images will pop better and you won't have after images both on the screen and in their eyes looking at colors against black. further light text on black is hard to read.

You probably know what you are talking about Mike, but I would still like to have a control on my artist website and have a chance to check my possibilities (shades of grey etc)

And you don't have any galleries, so seeing a white page when you click on an image is much easier on the eyes than a black background. I would like to be able to change the background for gallery views.

The Version 1 of AW used to be that way.

I want a black background on all "my" pages as well. One excuse I've heard is that drop shadows look bad on the black background and they probably do so we should also have the option to turn off drop shadows if we want a dark background. And yes, after looking at black backgrounds on the main pages, it is an ugly jolt to see a white background. The colors of the work look really washed out on a white background vs. dark background. If our AW sites were truly fully customizable as touted in the sales pitch to upgrade, we should have the ability to have a consistent color theme on all pages. And while I'm at it, we should also be allowed the option to move the search window and the cart icon down BELOW the header if it interferes with our custom headers.

The AW site has been upgraded to adjust to all platforms and screens: tablets, phones, etc. You can try it and see by minimizing the page. The first thing to disappear is the custom #1 on the header, then the #2. The search bar remains there. I can understand why it was done this way. I didn't like the search there either but now I understand why it is where it is.

I think a black text on a white page is easier on the eyes for the buyer experience.

Not sure I understand what you're saying, Jessica. I get that they set it up to be cross-platform compatible but how would moving the search window and the shopping cart down below the header and the menu bar make them disappear? There's plenty of room for them there whether on the individual art pages or the main pages. When I look at the AW site on a small phone, my custom header is still there.

I misunderstood, Kathleen. I thought you meant moving them to the navigation bar where they were previously.

You probably misunderstood because I have the lazy habit of not learning the correct terms for page elements. Surprised I didn't call them "those thingies".

The 3D images (e.g. canvas prints, greeting cards, etc.) have drop shadows behind them that make them look terrible on dark backgrounds.

go to menu tab on homepage for gallery background

Abbie, is there any way that we could have the option to not have drop shadows on the 3D images? I realize that means they would no longer appear as 3D images but for me, it would be worth it to have them display as 2D if it meant having dark backgrounds.

I think if you go to Homepage and click on tab IMAGES, then select Shadow or not

@ Kathleen Bishop

Same here. I would go for such trade or at least would like to try it out.

It's a little bit like, " sorry, we know that it will look bad, so we won't give you the option to ruin it for yourself " lol

We can leave a white patch just for the 3D images (e.g. canvas prints, greeting cards, etc.) if there is really nothing else to do about it. Though, I am not sure how it would look like.

I like the idea of just having the white background as a rectangle or something like that behind the 3D/sample section. That would make it easy to see the 3D drop shadows but still let everyone pick their own background color so it's not as jarring as going from, say a pure black background to a pure white one.

Tgchan - no, you aren't the only one. I don't like white backgrounds either.

The FAA area is a commons. This allows large numbers of visitors to see a large variety of images.
To allow each artist to screw around with the whole layout colors or whatever would be horribly wrong.

As for the AW you can change the colors all you want. At least I think you can. What are you guys
specifically referring to?

ah got you Kathleen, the image pages......they are your AW's.......

I'm still debating whether I want to keep the semi-dark body on my AW or revert to white for background consistency throughout. http://sarahkersey.com/
