Rita - I think you should settle in and become comfortable doing what you do.
If it evolves, fine. If not, it is your style.

If you keep taking other's opinions to heart you will go crazy trying to please people. There are so many of them.

Your work is beautiful in its simplistic style. Just paint.

thank you Janine for your kind words,

I love what I am doing, but at the same time I like it when people like my paintings, even so I know I cannot please everybody

you can't please everyone, but it never hurts to try new things.

NO, your work is not too plain or simple! Mike is right, you can't please everyone and you shouldn't try to please everyone. I don't like the owl as much as most of your works I adore a huge huge number of them and dang it, you took one of my favorites away! Which will be hanging in my home as soon as I can afford to frame it! Here is another one of my favorites.

I think it is a choice,in a painting with a lot of different stuff going on all over, there is kind of "more to eat", but it takes some of the strength of the motive if there is more to look at around.

still i would be very curious to see you try an image with a lot of people or a jungle with lots of different animals.

Absolutely not too simple! Your paintings are charming. You may not remember, but I said I loved this one and was going to buy a card, which I did. Wish I could afford a larger print!

There will always be someone who makes a 'weird' comment that doesn't make sense. I've been told all kinds of things about my work over the years. You have to learn to have a thick skin and just stick to your own journey with your art. I've let myself be side-tracked so often by comments people have made and this has only been a waste of time for me. Stick to what you want to paint, that way your work will have integrity.

Hi Rita,,Plenty of sincere comments on your style, I too like your work, keep it up!

Just follow your heart Rita. Your work will find the right audience. Finding a buyer is like falling in love, there is someone out there for everybody, and it has to feel "right". The "right" people will fall in love with your art, and as for the rest, they just aren't a good match for you. I think your work is wonderfully playful and refreshing.

Rita, sorry about the health issue, but do keep on painting. You have an endearing style with simplicity that touches the heart. When you get to it, illustrate some children's books, too. You have your own appealing style. Good Luck!

Wow, I can not believe somebody called your paintings simple. I am sure you work hard on each and every one of your paintings. As for me I like simple. In fact I really like art that looks, well, artsy. What I mean by that is that you see those people who paint or draw photographic realism. Yes, I recognize that to do that it takes a lot of skill, time, and talent. However, I love looking at art and knowing, without question, that that is what it is. I think to have the courage to paint things that are simple and whimsical is a very admirable thing. You paint what is in your heart, and it is beautiful.

If someone referred to your work as simple, wear if like a badge of honor. Your work is amazing, Rita!

I think whoever told you your work is too simple doesn't recognize good art.

Rita, your work is very beautiful and you have a lovely style to your paintings. I wouldn´t change a thing. Keep doing what your doing. :)

Listen, everyone has critics and haters. EVERYONE. Michael Jordan was the greatest basketball player in the world and he still got criticism. You can't listen to them.

Just do what you do, know in your heart that YOU like it, and let yourself evolve. Get out of the mentality of trying to please people. In the end all that matters is if YOU like what you do.

"Adding more things" just for the sake of it is never the answer. In fact, the way to arrive at the perfect finished piece is to take away everything that is not essential.

Keep doing what you love, the WAY you love doing it, Rita!! I think your paintings are gorgeous! I especially love that Boston in a teacup :) Don't let people tell you how you should paint or make your art. Tell them to buzz off (that's putting it nicely! lol)

Be yourself - you do excellent work - think of Grandma Moses and what many folks thought of that when her work was brought to light. There is something for everyone. Simplicity is often the heart of art.

I like simplicity and I think many of your paintings are quite elegant in a quiet sort of way.

I once read a comments by a highly regarded photographer that really stuck with me. It was something like "everything in a photo is either helping that photo or hurting it.". That single quote had a big effect on what I chose to shoot and really helped me improve.

I am back again, I also want to add that your paintings just give me a happy go lucky feeling inside. There is something totally wonderful about that. Sounds to me like your critic may just be a cynic.
