Aws 'search" Bar

I know this has been discussed, but it's hard to find the threads and they've gotten long. Is there no way to get rid of the "Search" control at the top of the page?

In fact, is there any one place (thread, or FAA page) where the current customization possibilities of the AWS are laid out and explained? Combing through endless old threads on the AWS is hopeless.

I'm trying to decide whether it's worth investing time in the AWS at this point...

Jim, Jessica J. knows how to make it transparent. There are two threads with directions for the site, one is Sean's announcement thread - new artistwebsites and the other is Abbies Artist website hints. As for putting the time in...Abbie says the customization and features are not complete, that we will be experiencing growing pains through march, I have decided to wait and work on my site in April.
